Burgertime offer...

I answered a CL ad he had posted that he was looking for arcade games and pinballs, working or not. He'll pick em up. (Now I'm kinda in an isolated part of Michigan and I've had a problem in the past with no one willing to make a trip up to buy anything. So having someone make the trek up here and not having to meet them half way, as I've done prior, is worth something to me.)

I originally sent him an email with the BT plus four other games I was willing to sell along with my asking prices. I also sent him pictures of each of the machines. He only had interest in the BT. I sent him a response yesterday morning, but haven't heard anything back from him since. I'm kinda hoping he drops the matter as I went down and played a couple more games last night and I think I'd regret seeing it go.

On the other hand, I have a daughter in college and the $ from the sale of the game could buy her books for the semester. So, either hang on to a game that rarely gets played or help out my daughter so she doesn't have to go further in debt from more college loans. Decisions, decisions.

Ah, I see. Yeah, I know the feeling. I'm selling my Satan's Hollow and after many delays in the sale and many games played in the meantime, I'm having sellers remorse....and I haven't even sold it yet!

One thing I should of mentioned too, it seems that games in the NW are going for MUCH more than Eastern US. So much so it seems, that I've been thinking of taking a road trip back East to get some deals.

And I see your point with the isolation thing being a factor, with gas prices the way they are and all.

Hope it works out in your favor man!

I think there's at least a few here who would buy mint BT's all day at $400
All I know is I wouldn't let mine go for $350, unless I really needed the money.

There's the problem right there. I am so sick of these adds on craigslist. If you do reply, your game is in poor shape, it is too far to drive at that price, etc. etc. Needing the money is one thing, but if he is looking for one, meet your price or keep looking.

The last BT I sold went for 750. I told the customer he could buy one cheaper someplace else but he want one with a history of working well. He said he wanted one that was built to keep not one that was built to sell. He wanted one with support when it blew up.

As I tell people, Yes craig list and ebay are a great place to buy stuff if you know your way around electronics but it's kind of a crap shoot if you want support after the sale is done.

I would guess that in that condition with the monitor problem, it is likely about a $350-375 game, but his quote about a top out mint condition unit for $400 is pretty darned silly. A top out mint condition unit should easily fetch twice that number, and possibly more. That's a decent condition unit which could be restored up to awesome condition, but it'd take some work and $$$ in parts.

Of course, that's simply my honest opinion...and I've restored one Burgertime upright and a cocktail. I also have another Burgertime upright that will eventually be fully restored (somebody had painted over the poor thing and converted it to a MAME monstrosity).

I can't wait to see that thing. :)

That one looks damn nice, I'd say 6 - 700.00 if it restenciled, new t molding etc then the asking price is fair.

It's all in the approach. He comes to you with a lowball price, refuses to budge, and is a jerk in the e-mails? I usually don't even reply to those types. Especially on CraigsList, which seems to breed that mentality in buyers. Personally, I'd think your game is well worth $450 or $500.

I was already offered $1000 for my fully restored one.

I paid 450 for mine.. and its in okay shape... still needs work on the sides but since I
bought it 6 months ago.. I havent seen another for sale in the Northeast. I'd stick to
your price.

The repro art is slowly becoming avaliable.. cpos tomorrow, bezel, and marquee in the
next 2 months on my website. Stencils are avaliable from TOG.

Thanks for all the input on this matter. I still haven't heard a peep out of this guy since my e-mail response nearly a week ago. I'm thinking that if he really wanted the Burgertime he'd have responded by now. His lowball offer and general attitude did piss me off a bit and at this point, even if I did hear from him, I think I'd tell him $500 or forget it.

In addition, I intend to help my daughter out with her college expenses anyway, and the money from the sale of this game would've helped a bit, but it's certainly not dependent on it in anyway.

I will hand off a little advice I had to learn the hard way and had to lawyer up to navigate out of.

you agreed to $450 for the game, you basically have a contract to sell it for 450 whether you want to or not.

you need to send a email stating it is no longer for sale or tell him it needs to be picked up by certain date, you have to be reasonable setting a date in the morning is not going to hold up in court.

*-I would send a email he needs to respond by a certain date, give a few days to be safe or the game is no longer for sale, send it where you have a email receipt it was opened on his end. print all emails and lock them up in the safe, you may need them later.

I had a similar deal happen guy played me like a violin..I had no idea being a nice guy and not understanding how the law really works...........I also had to pay my lawyer fee's, and sell the item to the prick or get sued for damages.

lesson learned be very careful what you type and send to people or post on the net.

That's solid advice, smoke. I'll do that this evening. Always a good idea to cover ones rear when dealing with things like this. Thanks

It's your item and is still in your possession. If you want $2000 for it, then you have the right to stand firm. I've passed on many offers before, and held out for my bottom line. I even had one guy tell me it took him too far to drive to get there and he doesn't have enough gas money to get him home if he pays me the full amount we agreed on the phone. BTW the guy with not enough gas money did pay me my full asking price. He most certainly must have run out of gas on the way home. Bottom line, who cares what someone thinks your item is worth. If its gold to you, then keep it until you get your asking price.

I had that happen once - price is agreed upon and then they show up, played the game for 10 minutes, said he loved it, moved it to the front door of the house, and tried to barter for what seemed like 10 minutes, I was pissed. Not only that but he had a friend along who was trying to help. GTFO please.

its yours so sell it for whatever you think you can get for it or want for it and hold to it as much as you want knowing it might not sell as quick... just like anything else

on the specifics side... i'd buy that in california for $450 any day, and have a feeling if it was on craigslist here it would be sold before i saw the ad

good luck

$350 is a more than fair price. and yes, the market is dying right now. economy sucks, back to school shopping..... everybody is broke......lol

Well, I just sold my Revenge From Mars pin for $3150 today that I've had listed on CL for close to 3 years....so the market is looking good to me ;)

This market has had the hurt on it for 10-30 years, depending who you're talking to. That doesn't mean you can't get $450 for your Burgertime. That probably would have been an easy $800-$1000+, 10 years ago.

Preach it brother. It's worth literally whatever you want out of it, if nobody will pay it then it's worth it to you.
