I've been contacted by a buyer about him purchasing my Burgertime. I sent him the attached picture at his request. I was asking $500.00. It works fine, never given me a problem, but the monitor does have a blue tint to it, which I told him about. He offered $300.00 for it to which I countered with $450.00.

I know it's not in perfect shape, but got his response this morning and I quote "Being honest here, the picture you sent me is nowhere near a $450.00 condition. I mean normal top out is $400.00 for a mint condtion unit. The picture you have has peeling paint, scratches and is ok shape. My top out would be $350.00 and I'm overpaying". Opinions?

Have prices in this economy really come down this much? Is this a fair offer?

$350 is a more than fair price. and yes, the market is dying right now. economy sucks, back to school shopping..... everybody is broke......lol

Guy is starting off too low on a mint burgertime. If it was mint, then it would sell for $750-$1k.

The rest of your parts look good. If there is no flaking on the glass, thats a plus. How much screen burn does it have? take of the monitor glass and clean it. looks really dirty. Clean the tube and plastic tint shild too as it will make the monitor nice and clear..

I would open the back door. Look for the knob on the neckboard that says blue. turn it 1/8 -1/4 of a turn in a direction and if it does not make it worse, it will make it go away.

Back to the price, I think $300-$400 is fair for it in that condition. I all depends on where you are. I would think in CA, if you put it up on CL at $400, it would sell in 24 hours..

I guess it gets down to you. Do you want to sell it? I would not, but if you do, then his offer is not that bad. But if you don't want to sell, I would stick with the $450 as thats reasonable ammount for a Burgertime.

I would tell him to eat a shit sandwich. 300-350 may be reasonable for that game/condition, hard to say without having it front of me, but I would go for 500 on it as well. They don't pop up all that often and when they do, they routinely pull 450-500 up here. I would not go below 450 to that guy based on his comments alone, and especially if you don't need to sell it- btime is a great game.

The boardsets are pulling 125-150 alone these days, and I would certainly say the rest of the game is worth 200+ any day.

It is true that the market is tough right now, but certain games (like btime IMO) have no problem selling up here.

I'll negoitate to a point with people, but without fail almost everytime I have passed on someone that I feel is offering too little, it will be followed by someone that offers full price without question.

I'd say hold firm at whatever number you feel is right and let him either buy it for that or move on.

It's your item and is still in your possession. If you want $2000 for it, then you have the right to stand firm. I've passed on many offers before, and held out for my bottom line. I even had one guy tell me it took him too far to drive to get there and he doesn't have enough gas money to get him home if he pays me the full amount we agreed on the phone. BTW the guy with not enough gas money did pay me my full asking price. He most certainly must have run out of gas on the way home. Bottom line, who cares what someone thinks your item is worth. If its gold to you, then keep it until you get your asking price.

I just picked up two of them and the only thing I can tell you is..... if you think you can get $450, then stand at that price. The guy is lowballing because he is one of us, and we all try to do that.

I would stick to your price....unless you really need the space or the money. Burgertime is a dersireable game. One thing I hate is how damn cheap people are in this hobby. Maybe he should wait for a mint $400.00 dollar Burgertime to pop up locally to him. Might only take him 5,10,15 years to find his $400.00 mint Burgertime...but hey he'll save $100.00...if/ when he finds it. Wish him good luck!

I would guess that in that condition with the monitor problem, it is likely about a $350-375 game, but his quote about a top out mint condition unit for $400 is pretty darned silly. A top out mint condition unit should easily fetch twice that number, and possibly more. That's a decent condition unit which could be restored up to awesome condition, but it'd take some work and $$$ in parts.

Of course, that's simply my honest opinion...and I've restored one Burgertime upright and a cocktail. I also have another Burgertime upright that will eventually be fully restored (somebody had painted over the poor thing and converted it to a MAME monstrosity).

not all of us here are cheap bastards.. Some of us pay asking price or more..

"$450? No, no, I simply must pay more for this. I might bring down the median price. And what would the boys at the yacht club think?"

As for your price, I'd say it seems a little high, but not out of line. I'd take it, but I'm sure I'd want the game gone more than the extra $100 or so. And you might want to keep in mind that (last I checked) some of the products to restore BT are not made anymore (was going to pick one up myself, but realized the stencils are no longer available). May not make a difference to you, but it certainly devalues the item for someone who is buying to restore.

Or counter-offer for $400 and tell him if that is no good you will wait a few days and see what happens before going further. May want to make it clear you will not go any lower as well tho, this guy sounds like the type who would show up with no intent to really pay $350 (or better yet get 'buyer's remorse' and no-show). I'd also politely point out that $400 for a mint BT is bollocks.

It never ceases to amaze me how the economy has affected the game market. Game prices aren't going down because of the shitty economy, they are going up because everyone is trying to get more than their game is worth (NOT referring to you in this example) because they're broke?! How does that work?

Burgetime

I've been collecting since the late 90's and I've only had the chance to buy a couple burgertimes.. If the game is complete, decent working condition and not water damaged.. They should start at $400.. These games are not easy to find as a lot were converted.. I own one that was bought from the vending company right before or shortly after it was shipped from the factory.. Doesn't get as much play in my arcade as I hoped, but it's one hell of a conversation piece! Plus my 2 yearold son loves it.. Ha

Funny, you want to repaint it.. I feel that destroys the games value.. I have seen a repro burgertime CP overlay it looks like crap. I don't know if there is more than 1 but it looked like a quality effort. Colors were off and detail was missing. I could see it at 5ft from the cabinet.. Some people will take pretty over quality..

I paid $250 for mine in about the same shape or slightly better and not working.. I fixed the PS and fixed the pcb and its all good now.

Actually I think game prices are about the same or slightly lower.. Whats different now is that when someone posted a game, it might sit on CL for a week. Before it would sell in hours..

Now, there are more cheap bastards that will call and offer 1/2 of whatever an item is listed at..

I think the point is the guy called him to buy it. He did not have it listed for sale. If the seller is thinking of selling, I would say spend the 15 min to clean it adjust the monitor, take better pics and toss it up on CL for $450 or more and see what happens..

Yeah this might be an easier sell with a little more work.

As for the stencils, repro art, etc., that is a personal choice. For me it depends on how bad it is. I like original, but I prefer pretty and slightly inaccurate over original and ugly 9 times out of 10. Unless we are talking about inkjet crap.

As for resale value I don't often resell stuff I restore, and don't have the patience for the current market anyways. I know I'm happier with the way most of my restored stuff look now tho.

This guy contacted you about the game, he want's it, you name the price! This guy's trying to work you.

I was recently trying to get an alright Burgertime here in Seattle for $600...and I had to wait in line behind 4 others to get it (didn't get it)....AND, there was a mosaic of gum stuck above the bezel.

$350 my ASS!
