I've been lurking here for a while, and I know threads periodically appear about BurgerTime upright CPO reproductions, but I have some Qs about what is available out there *right now*. Is the consensus that what's currently available is just not worth it? As for CPOs, here's what I found:

Not much info on these, but printed vinyl just doesn't sound like the right material. Also, cutting out button and, moreover, joystick holes seems pretty lame -- not sure if I could possibly cut a perfect circle for the joystick. Anyone have a proven method for this?

Also, for the bezel, I see a lot of printed art (on, what, paper?) that goes behind the glass or sticks on top of it. That isn't even close to the sticky decal on the rear side of the original glass, so I guess I'm wondering, why bother? Is that really the only option? Can that even look remotely similar to the original? Will it fool me? Here are some examples:

Good to know some Pepper buttons can easily be found.

Anyway, any BT repro advice would be appreciated!

These look good. Uncut though, it seems. What's been your experience with cutting out the holes? I can just see myself obsessing over crummy box-cutter-made circle under the joystick. Do you cut them out after the decal is in place, using the control panel holes as guides or something?

The CPO has been done properly, silk screened, etc.. I have it on my game and it looks perfect. Much of what is out there is of much lower quality, so I'd recommend digging to find a screened CPO and pay the extra for it.

If you can I would try to find a silkscreened reproduction like what Arcade Renovations put out years ago or one of Thisoldgame's reproductions. Here is a picture of Thisoldgame's CPO installed:

Thisoldgame's are definitely impressive, and they seem to fly off the shelves once they are in print. I may just wait on an unlikely reprint since my CPO isn't *that* awful, or settle for a lesser imitation for the time being (the price is pretty nice at Gameongrafix).

---

Any thoughts on the bezel? Do colors match up on repro underlays just like the original glass sticky decal? Do you sandwich them between two sheets of thin glass or something?

My bezel is faded and has some paint loss. Not bad, but if a nice reproduction was made, i'd be interested. I'm hopeing ThisOldGame eventually reproduced the bezel, screened on glass or plexi. Not sure if there are enough buyers though. Maybe he should do a preorder or interest poll at least.

Yeah, that would be cool -- although the original is not screened, right? Mine is a reverse decal (that's full of bubbles and wrinkles from age). That said, screened art is awesome.

It is screened art but if the game or bezel wasn't stored in a moisture free, temperature controlled environment the ink will separate from the glass. Happens a lot with bezels like this and pinball backglasses.

I've got a beautiful NOS glass monitor bezel that could serve as the basis for any reproduction. I have not put it in my machine yet, it is still wrapped up. I guess we should ask Rich if this is something he'd be willing to do and how many he'd need to have ordered to do it.

Didn't see this answered yet...

What I do is mount the overlay first, give it time to 'set' / dry / stick, then use an X-acto knife, cutting from the top down, and just slide the blade right against the (hopefully) metal hole for a nice, clean cut.

Hope that makes sense. If not, LMK and I'll mock up a photo.

+1. This is the same technique I've used on control panels that don't have pre-cut holes. I did it for a friend's Street Fighter II cpo, which has a ton of buttons.

The one thing I do to ensure I start in the right place is go from the backside of the control panel and make a small incision outwards in the center of the button hole. The I know exactly where to come in from the front side and then follow the hole around.

Thanks for the hole-cutting advice, that certainly gives me some confidence!

Also, very interesting that my OG, bubbly art is actually screened. I suppose there's no way to reverse the bubbling or restore it in any way?

I would be in for one.

Just an update: I grabbed some Game On Grafix stuff -- a CPO and a bezel -- and will let everyone know how they look. Also got some pepper buttons from Game Stencils but the strange "Special Sauce" colored 1 and 2 Player buttons may be irreplaceable!
