Burgertime(DECO) Newbie Needs Major Help.Where to Begin?!

Ok I am brand new to this whole arcade machine thing so I apologize ahead of time for my lack of knowledge.

I just purchased a cabinet which I thought was just something that was homemade. It turns out the cabinet was an old Burgertime machine (DECO), but the previous owner had taken out the PCB boards and sold them. The front control panel is also gone (he either sold it or can't find it but if he ever found it he said he would give it to me). The cabinet is wood on the sides and does not have the chef from the game on it.

Overall the whole thing is in pretty rough shape but he said the last time he used it, the monitor was working.

Where should I begin with this machine? Right now I am on the fence. Should I restore the machine to its original form or turn it into a Mame machine possibly.

It looks like the previous owner tried to install a cable that would hook the monitor up to a PC, but he either never finished it or got it to work properly he said.

Is it ok to plug in the machine and turn it on just to see what happens? I'm afraid something will break if I do, if the wires aren't set up correctly. The wires are majorly beat up and I think I will need a ton of help wiring everything.

Can anyone lead me in some sort of direction? I'm just trying to clean it up at the moment

Those are good MAME or Multi game candidate cabinets.
You'll spend a fortune finding working original hardware and such.
The front door opening is great for access to the inside from the front.
The monitor is easy to switch from vertical to horizontal, whichever you may need.

Typically the monitors in those use 100v, so if you decide to re-wire it, keep whatever it's connected to intact for power. (if I recall it looks like a wall outlet coming off a transformer)(might be two transformer in there actually)

Bad news update

Bad News

Plugged in the machine today for the first time. Tried flicking the power switch...got nothing :(

Where do I go from here ?

check fuses, check power cord for cuts, follow the power cord into the cabinet and check it with a multimeter and see if your getting power into the cabinet, also the power switch may be bad

With no PCB, that's about normal. It's not a TV, so don't expect a menu. No video source = black screen with no video.

The crackle is HV in the monitor. That's a good thing. Look (but don't touch) at the tube neck. Is it glowing orange? That's good too! The marquee light means that your basic AC wiring is at least partially functional. So far, so good.

Now you need a game board. I don't think BT is Jamma, so go find a cheap BT board that's known good and hook it up. Or get any game and wire it to the monitor. That will help test that. If that works, you're as good as it's gonna get with what you have.

Next comes controls, wiring, etc.

The cabinet he's describing is an original woody DECO tape cabinet, so he'd need the boards, the tape, and the dongle. It's probably easier to rewire the game to run off of the Midway boardset.

For all that effort you might as well put in a switching power supply and JAMMA wiring harness and pop a multi-board in there (48-1 or 60-1). You'll have Burgertime and many other games along with new power, wiring and game PCB... no matter what avenue you take it'll be a fair amount of work. The good news is you'll learn a lot about these icons of culture! Lots of help on these boards. Take a shot at it.

Update 2

Thanks for the help so far everyone. I've been wondering if this cab was Jamma or not.

I had to back up a step... I realized that I don't have a round key for the locks on the doors. Luckily the front one is open but I will have to get a friend to help me move the machine so I can get to this door and open it somehow.

Any tips on how to get it open if its locked ? Do they unscrew ?

Hopefully I can have my friend Kabukiman from the forums here come take a look and offer his advice :)

On another side note, I unbagged all the T-molding that used to be on machine (shiny gold) it looks to be original but it is in really bad shape (scratched, dented, broken, missing parts). Is there any value in keeping the "original" and maybe spray painting it gold, or should i just buy some online and redo all of it ?

Updates

Using a Volt meter we tested the power cable and at least THAT is working. The fuse in the front next to the power switch is also good. Many wires have been cut include the wires that go from the outer power cable, into the Power Supply. We are working on testing out that Power Supply to see if its broken, and hopefully replacing it cheap if it is.

Had a great shock as two of the lines crossed (oops!)

Also have some good pictures coming courtesy of my friend and his camera (which is way better than mine). We took out the piece of wood that had the power supply and noise reduction and all that stuff.

As of right now a lot of wires are currently cut (by previous owner). Would anyone know if there would be any problems hooking up a Jamma harness for this machine? I thought I read somewhere that I couldn't use Jamma or its not compatible... but I'm clueless. Also if we have to replace the power supply we don't know what we can use. Please keep in mind this is a Burgertime DECO (japanese?)and not the usual Midway one

Hey all!, I checked this cab out the other night, whoever owned it first butchered a lot of the wiring practically everything is cut, I think we would be better off if we started from scratch. I suggested we get a cheap power supply and a Jamma Harness to test the componenets..ie Coindoors, Monitor, lights...etc I have boards we can test, I brought one over but when I got there it was messy. Here are a few pics..... (as you can see in the first picture the power setup has every cable cut)

I think Steve's end goal with this cab is to make it a MAME machine but if possible utilize the monitor if it indeed is working.

Yeah leaning towards a 60-1 board or a Mame machine possibly.

The good news is that the machine is 99% cleaned up now.

Kabook can you post that picture of the power supply or can anyone post a link to buy a reasonably priced Jamma Harness and Power supply for this ?

that would work, but I don't think I have ever seen that brand of power supply. I would go with a happ power supply..

Email bob roberts and see if he sells a starter kit for building a cabinet.
http://www.therealbobroberts.net/

he sells all the parts you would need, but it will be a bit more than that ebay seller..

I would 60 in 1 the burgertime cab you got.. But if your monitor is bad and you don't have a control panel, I would say find a better cab.
