FS Parts: Bunch o' Stuff - G08 Vector - Centipede - Road Blasters Cockpit - Others

Was/is there a shield for the tube? (The big brown metal thing that covers the degauss coil.)
Yes, I've got a couple of G08 shields in a pile. I didn't bother listing them because they were kinda rusty and gross.

Aren't the neon bulbs on the G08 neck board just there to indicate a problem with the board if they light up? So if one is broken/bad, it doesn't necessarily mean that the board is not working, just that if there is a problem with the board, the bulb won't work to light up to tell you so.

I could be wrong...I'm sure others can certainly chime in if they have the definitive answer.

They're spark gaps in case there is an arc to a cathode.

I've never had a real reason to look at them on a GO8, but on other neck boards that have these, they are GDTs and not neon tubes. Gas Discharge Tubes. Some monitors like K7000s have spark gaps built into the neck socket itself (just an air gap), but many newer monitors have GDTs; often labeled as spark gap on schems or PCB markings (SG1, SG2, etc).

GDTs have a specific gas mixture inside them for the rated discharge voltage (600v, 800v, etc), and they sometimes look exactly like a NE-2 neon lamp package, but most of the GDTs from the last ~30 years I've seen tend to look like a 1/4" long round white ceramic tube. I've bought the newer GDTs and replaced the older neon tube-looking ones on some newer monitors and they work fine. You could also chance just not replacing them if they're damaged/missing, but I'd personally rather have them there just in case.
