Well, its been several years since I've gotten a good score on a cabinet i want to restore.
The morning of August 28th I stumbled across these two machines for sale on Facebook marketplace for a really reasonable price. Me and my good buddy Josh ended up driving a little over 2 hours one way to go get these.
They supposedly worked but had been sitting for 8 years. Luckily we had a chance to plug them in. Mine ended up having an arcing flyback transformer, and wouldn't show picture. His fired up, but had HORRIBLE collapse in every direction and every color was completely out of whack. We loaded them up, secured them and hauled them back to our hometown.
Here is the pictures from that day we purchased them, including the for sale pictures.

NOTE: This restoration documentation will primarily be on only my machine.

You can notice on the photo below that mine still has an un-faded right side of the cabinet!!!!

Here is a photo of us after we had gotten them back to his storage unit at around 11pm,
We gave them a quick damp paper towel wipe down, and had to pose like the infamous LIFE Magazine photo!

A week later, I returned to my buddy's storage unit to grab my Mortal Kombat so I could haul it to my storage and moderately work on it and start working on the monitor and rebuilding and recapping items. During this trip, I also decided to remove the Hantrarex Polo 25" monitor from it. I also decided to snap some more pictures of it.

Well, Now that the monitor was out, along with the PCB backing board & marquee light fixture, I had a large amount of work on my hands. I had to place an order through ArcadeShop for parts and rebuild kits, New Marquee through XL Arcade, Near mint 2nd hand owners manual from someone off eBay (to get rid of the bug eaten one in the bottom of the cabinet, and 2 orders to Mousers for components, I was ready to do some soldering and work!!!

Well starting out with the monitor, I started with your common stuff, new flyback transformer, new general cap kit, new HOT. But as I'm sure some of you know, these Hantarex monitors can be a complete pain in the ass. Well over a few days of research I learned that these things are known for taking out HOTs when the film capacitors (both boxy style & orange poly ones) as well as a few large diodes on the board. During an overall inspection of the monitor chassis, i noticed that one of the poly caps had actually had a hairline crack in it (first picture below), likely causing a short or failure....... So, me being the person I am, I ordered ALL brand new film capacitors and large diodes to eliminate 90% of the possible common failures of these monitors. Here are some photos of before and after cleaning the chassis, as well as the process and replacement of parts.

Following repairing the monitor, i have re-capped the MK audio board, as well as installed a brand new HAPP power supply, rebuilt the marquee light fixture with a new transformer, bulb, and starter. I also located the eaten up FBI warning sticker on the PCB backing board, reprinted it on cardstock and will later adhere it to replace the tattered up one. Most people would have likely removed it or not bothered, but I'm a stickler for details!!!

Haven't had a ton of time to work on it in the last week or so, but I managed to bring home the control panel top, stripped it down for new red IL joysticks and new red t-molding I have on the way. Luckily I still had brand new buttons with cherry microswitches still left over from an old vendor that gave me a few hundred buttons years ago (both microswitch and leaf) Although the overlay is MINT, The Lexan overlay is less to be desired, I'm going to attempt to polish it with a drill buffing wheel this week with some Novus polish before I resort to a new overlay protector. The 2nd picture is some of the items I've already worked on ready to be put back in the cabinet.
