Hey Guys

I'm curious on what you guys think is tacky or ok.
How often can someone bump their stuff before you think it's tacky?

Once a day?
Morning to afternoon?
Once every other day?

I'm just curious... cause I see people make small comments where they can edit their last post but instead they choose to comment again to bump it.

I'll usually bump once a day... or so. Rarely will I bump more than once a day unless it's a very busy day and my post ends up on page 3 or 4.

When it falls back beyond the second or third page, or once a week at most.

There is a search function for a reason...

Bumping it within the same day is ANNOYING, especially in the FS forum, as you aren't the only one selling stuff...it's just rude.

The only exception is worthy additions, like you added pics or items.

If you add something to a thread I don't see a problem with 'replying' to your thread so it bumps it up. For sale section is very flooded right now and w/i an hour your post is usually on the 2nd and sometimes the 3rd page so a bump is in order.

Probably once a day is perfectly fine. After that it's probably a little tacky. This past weekend I'm classified as "tacky".

Additional guidelines for the for sale/wanted sections:

http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=98530

BUMPING: Threads should not be "bumped" (posted in by the seller or by someone on the seller's behalf to move to the top of the forum) more than once every 24 hours. Once you have bumped a thread three times and no one else has posted, you may not bump again for another week. Posting that in item is no longer available or wanted is not bumping.

I always try and follow the 24h hour rule. Probably have slipped up on the more than 3 bump rule though. Most sites with FS sections usually have a 24 hour rule.

I usually reply to my own thread only if I need to add pictures, another thought or in response to another poster. I always try to edit my posts if I have a change or something to add/remove within that same thought.

I usually stay within the 24-hour rule for the FS posts unless it gets flooded within the hour like someone mentioned. If that's the case, I usually bump it in the evening (or morning), not right away. Also, I think if someone has a list of parts to sell, it's more courteous to list it in one thread as opposed to doing 5+ different posts all at once as some guys choose to do.

if it's not for sale, it's not a bump.

I think that some people think that if there's no thread activity that bumping will get it sold.

once in a 24 hours if you're selling stuff.

As often as you need to respond to other comments and questions in the General discussion areas.

Or you could keep deleting your last post and repost the same thing so it doesn't look like you're bumping when you actually are

I think this a great thread. I have wondered about this myself. It seems like a few folks here are abusing the for sale section. Guess that's gonna happen though.

people don't typically read the rules.

I just wanted to throw it out there cause it's actually bothering me to the point where I don't want to buy from someone just cause the abuse that a little bit. This morning I was like "WTF 4 hours and you think you need to bump your thread with two items?" I just wondered if others thought that it was way annoying.

Reminds me of when DaveZ started a thread for EVERY SINGLE ITEM he had for sale. We all know what an idiot he was.

Search works really well. I rarely bump my Capcom Diamond plate CPO and people still ping me about that ever week or every other week. It's a super old thread too.

The ones that crack me up are the ones that are soooo overpriced, yet they bump it several times a day, without lowering the price, and just "can't believe" that there is no interest in this "rare machine"!

yeah but I expect better here.

Especially with the KLOV price police out in force telling you what you should sell it at.

The only good thing about guys getting on the case of others is that it kind snaps back the behavior so that people act a little more normal. (general comment) It's only sad here when people get too high and mighty.

No one comments, or asks about your item? Get a clue... no interest or over priced.

I think bumping once a day is fine. If no one is interested then they're not interested. I will say that if someone posts "PM sent" and the seller replies with a "still pending" that's perfectly allowable. Some people might think that just because someone sends a pm that the item is sold when it isn't. I for one don't even reply to a for sale thread, I always PM with any questions regarding payment or just to kick a tire or two. :D

I try to follow the rules. I do admit I fudge it a little and don't necessarily go 24 hours. I will try to wait until at least the next day (post for sale 3PM, may bump at 10AM next morning)

I will respond to questions in the thread, however, saves me the trouble of answering the same questions if I get multiple PMs about it.

I was guilty of bumping after a few hours the other day, but that was simply because I added pictures...
