Hey,

I just picked up a Bump n Jump tonight... everything works great, except when you get to the end of the first level, the car pulls up to the gas pump, but then it basically freezes. The music keeps going, and the car is animated like it's still driving.

Any ideas? I've checked the +5, and it's a steady +5.1V at the chips, I've reseated the chips and cleaned the connectors, and it passes self tests. There's a few jumper wires, but they look like they've been there for a long time, and possibly factory... so I don't suspect them. It seems like there's a level done signal somewhere that's stuck or floating, but I'm not familiar with these boards, so I'm just looking for some clues of what to check. The schematics sure aren't Atari schems ;) .

Thanks,
DogP

My bet is a ROM issue. Code for the 1st level is prob in one of the ROMs while the next is in another. Try reseating the program ROMs.

Provide a screenshot of the game when it freezes. It could be either RAM or ROM chips.
I'll post one when I get home, though it's literally just the car at the pump (and it's not totally frozen, the game just won't progress).

I've tried reseating the ROMs... I plan on dumping/checking the ROMs tonight. I didn't realize level 2 was on a different ROM than level 1 though... that would make more sense to why it would stop there. It does pass all self-tests though... unless those ROMs aren't checked.

Thanks,

WOOT! It's fixed... it ended up being ROM 12C. There's 1 bad bit on the ROM, and apparently that causes what I was seeing... crazy :p .

Thanks!
