My parents gave me permission to build them a multicade or MAME cocktail cabinet. I want to bulid it from scratch (other than the cabinet, that can be prefabbed). I need some suggestions on websites that sell all the components I will need for this build. Also, I am not sure which to build a MAME or multicade, so what are some pros and cons to building these games. All the input I can get will help.
Thanks guys,
Arcade Greg

multicade (60-in-1's) are easy jamma installs.
Less hassle as far as I'm concerned as they are typical wire jobs and no software to mess up.
Downside is they are only pre-determined games, with a few poorly done.

MAME PC setups are more flexible, but more complicated and expensive.
Depending on how you set it up, you can hide the "computer feel" of the system.

If it's a gift that you want to keep simple, go with the multicade as long as the games satisfy the user.

Go mame, then you can add all the games you want and not be locked into only the 60 in 1 games. Plus Millipede on a 60 in1 sucks, if you run a newer version of mame with the multiple mice input and a hacked Millipede rom and you can play a perfect cocktail Millipede! (a current project of mine)

If its for your parents, I assume that ease of use for the player is a concern. A multiboard might be the way to go. It will be easier for you as the builder as well. If you can find some crappy JAMMA game already installed in a cocktail cabinet, so much the better. Depending on the existing controls and overall setup, it would likely be plug and play.

Put some effort in and make a nice gift, go with Mame. 60 in 1s are to be sold to strangers for way more than they are worth.

Here is a MAME question. Should I go with the original XBOX with 10,000-15,000 games on it, or should I go computer with programs? Pros and Cons....
Thanks guys,
