Building a 60-in-1 cocktail arcade around a VGA monitor

I'm thinking my next project will be to build a cocktail table arcade to play the 60-in-1 vertical arcade games board.

I have an old 22" (20" viewable) VGA monitor. It's a Gateway DiamondTron VX1120

Has anyone built a cocktail table arcade around this monitor, or one like it? Is the size too small?

Also, if anyone can recommend cocktail table cabinet plans, I'd appreciate it. I'm handy with a table saw, router, etc.

20" should be fine, I have a 19" lcd in my cocktail multicade and it's just right. Since you're building your own it should fit (I think you might have a tight fit in a Midway cocktail).

Had a Missile Command CT with a monitor of basically the same size. This CRT should provide a good enough size and excellent resolution. Just check the plans from the other posts, don't overdo the CT size, think compact but comfortable and it will work out. A lot of us would think building a machine around an old PC monitor would be backward engineering but not me - that's how tinkerers work.

Why not remove it from the case? You may have to come up with some mounting hardware..

Have you done any messing around with Mame? Honestly I think you will be happier with it. I just started with the xx-1's and they are just disappointing. I can't believe how bad the sound is. And the graphics are too sharp. They look freaky.

Mala+Mame+games YOU like is just SO much better. And if you add a lower end aTi or nVida card in the pc you can get some fantastic looking graphics on the vga monitor. You can get the same games that are running on that board, running on an old P2 easy.

I just bought my my first combo board after years of using MAME cabs and think I might agree with this. I'm going to give it a chance, but the front end and game selection are weak. MAME can also do horizontal and vertical games on the same machine with no hassles w/monitor you're using.
