Buffett <- showing what being a KLOVer is all about!
OK little bit of back story! While back I got a dedicated Rockola Eyes thinking my kids would love the game. When I got it, it had monitor problems and needs just some general cleaning. Ended up putting a K7000 monitor in it and the machine looked great.
Showed it to my kids . . . and nothing, both of them love the trackball games, Missile Command and Centipede.
Fast forward to about a week and half ago. I decided to go to the arcade party in Herdon, VA because I'm also picking up a pinball machine for the host and I need a K7000 25" monitor rebuilt which Buffett says he can do. I put on there great, I will be there and I also mention I have a Rockola Eyes that I'd be willing to trade if anyone was interested.
Buffett asks me to call him about a potential trade so I do. We talk and I come to find out he has a Dedicated Open Ice control panel with working PCB and the correct style cabinet for Open Ice though its something else! Fine by me, I don't mind that the side art is different, I can fix that later!
So I get to the party, unloaded the pinball, and bring my K7000 25" monitor into the work area. Immediately he sits me down and says I'm going to do the monitor repair myself. This is perfect, I've been wanting to learn how to do it and I learn best when I'm shown how.
Over the next 3 hours Buffett answers every single question I have about the monitor, and explains it to me in depth which I completely appreciated. At about 4 the repairs had slowed down till nothing and we could go get the Open Ice stuff and drop of his Rockola Eyes at his place.
We go to his place, and get all the pieces we need for the Open Ice. He asks if I have certain parts, which I didn't, and gets all the parts I need to be able to make the game functional. One the way back I ask him if we will be able to get the game up and running that evening with the rebuilt K7000 monitor that I had brought with me. He just smiled and said sure.
We started right around 7pm working on the Open Ice and finally got the game up and running at around 3:30 am! We took one break to eat and get rejuvenated, but other than that, Buffett and I were pretty much working on the game constantly. Well I should say Buffett worked and directed me, while I tried not to screw anything up
He taught me how to check all the wiring and basically taught me how to put an arcade cabinet together correctly. The man is a tank, we were working non-stop till the wee hours of the morning. He even helped me wrap it and load it up in my truck!
I regret I didn't get to hang out more at the arcade party, but I had a great time! Buffett is one of the coolest KLOVer's I've meet and I won't hesitate to get monitor parts from him in the future.
I just wanted to say thanks again to Buffett for all the time and effort he put into that cabinet which my son and I have gotten a lot of enjoyment out of so far!
I think I will end this the way Buffett would!
-Peace!
