buddy picked up an original Centipede Cabaret in MD

OK, a friend picked this up from a local outdoor swap meet a couple weekends ago. Pisses me off... i go there almost every week, except that one, and have never seen an arcade game out there... apparently some guy just had it in the back of his truck.

Original Centipede cabaret. All original game it looks like even has the manual paperwork and some old NOS atari stickers. Was totally dead. Now, I'm pretty damn stupid when it comes to this stuff, i'm learning best I can but it's frustrating at times. I warned my friend I didn't know much... but I knew enough to get the back door open finagle some stuff around and got some power. The game plays blind, i can hear it boot up, coin up and play with sounds but no power at all in the monitor. No glow on the tube at all. I'm not good with monitors (i've got a MK with a blown one right now I need help with) but I unplugged and tested the voltage going in from the power supply and got nada.

So, where should I go next to narrow down the issue, or have I already done it?

Also, of course, he's wondering on the value as I think he wants to move it. I'd love to have it.. but i have a full sized centipede already so would be kind of silly. Below are some initial pics and a little video I took. I'm going back there to check it out again this weekend, it's in a storage unit now.

Surprised this thread has zero interest.. i didn't think these were super common.

Might sound silly but have you checked the fuses? I mean if it's playing blind, the majority of your troubleshooting is taken care of.

You say you don't have an AC coming into the monitor, I would follow those AC wires backwards to troubleshoot. But your obviously getting power to the pcb

In terms of value, I would say in the condition shown, my take is no more than $300-400

I think centipede cabarets are desirable and your cab looks solid but it's not working, the control panel is pretty rough, the trackball is going to need to be rebuilt, possibly the monitor, coin door, not seeing the full left side there's a pretty big chunk missing there at the bottom, etc

I think if you look here a cleaned up restored centipede cabaret probably fetches about double that but you've got at least that much work to get this one there IMO.

My $0.02, hope it helps

What is it with people and mice. At the age of these games, I'd be surprised if over 75% hadn't had a mouse in them at one time or another (at least passing through that is).

Maybe my estimation is way off, but between location, wharehouses, storage units, sheds, garages, basements....

Now if it reeks of mouse piss, etc.... well, then there is some cleaning, or bottom replacement in order.... but a few chewed manual bits in an otherwise fine game does not make a health disaster. Nor do I think it devalues the game (the manuals, yes), but not the game. At least that is my take.

Hopefully this doesn't hijack the thread.

To be on topic here... like someone said, if you have no power at the connector into the monitor you'll need to trace the wires back. It is likely a bad connector or fuse, something disconnected, etc. That's not to say the monitor will work if you find that.... but you have a shot at it working.

Monitors don't age well (the caps need replacing). They develop all sorts of symptoms. You won't know what could be required till you solve the power to the monitor problem though.

What did you friend pay for it ?

It has seen better days.... but it all can be fixed.... but as someone else mentioned, to get the value up, you'd have to put into it at least as much as the difference in its current value to it's potential value. Best bet if he wants to flip it is see if you can get the monitor working, then flip it... that will likely be the maximum upside if that is his goal.

And don't let him trust craigislist pricing.... there is a lot of stuff that doesn't sell on CL. Prices some people want for these things make me laugh... (not that there aren't exceptional condition games or rare titles that don't have value).

Good luck.

This game likely has never been worked on. The logic board has factory tie-wraps still installed? Wow - impressive "survivor".

Monitor issue? Likely a fuse. LOL

And I agree, most games might have seen a mouse or two in it's lifetime. Even mine had signs of a few when stored. :(

thanks all, yes a mouse did find his way in at some point but there doesnt' seem to be any damage to the boards or wires. I have NO IDEA where/how this thing has been stored, it was in the back of a pickup truck when purchased lol.

I did check the fuses but it was a quick night and it's very possible they need to be rechecked. We're going back out to the storage unit this weekend so I can see then and in the daylight finally.

Hard to tell from the pics, but looks to be a G07 monitor. Check the fuses on the chassis (not the brick), and or the voltage at the power connector to the monitor.

The voltage at the connector was the only thing i did check and got no reading but am going back for fuses on Tuesday
