FIXED IT!!!!!!!!!!!

I ordered some z80's from bob roberts, (turns out they were th wrong ones so I didn't install them)

I went ahead and took apart all the boards and metal plates separating them, and reseated every chip, and made sure the ribbon cables were on there deep.

put it in and got a ram error. went through a self diagnostic, nothing wrong, flipped it back to play, and it's been perfect. Graphics glitches are gone too. (new ribbon cables I suspect)

For the record, if anyone intends to use the ribbon cables that bob and everyone else seems to have with 2 rows and 25 pins, they are a bitch to use in tapper.

It will require quite a bit of hacking(shaving, cutting, whatever) the plastic to get them to squeeze between the metal board dividers.

Congrats on fixing it!

It was probably ribbon cable related all along although there's no way to be sure.

Those BR cables aren't fun on a Spy Hunter either.

I wish someone would produce those cables in a 24 pin width with just 1 row -- maybe they'd fit properly w/o having to shave them.

At the same time I'm happy to have *something* to use as a replacement for the originals because something > nothing.

Cool, I second the congrats on fixing it! Just don't breathe on it or fart in it's general direction and it should be okay. :D Seriously though, good job.

ok time to back up. It is continuously resetting now. gets to game play then resets.

I pulled the power board and the batter was still on there, SHIT
it basically exploded. piles of acid.

off to work cleaning it.

IIRC a mix of vinegar and water is good to neutralize the corrosion. A tooth brush will help to get some of the residue off. Of course make sure to dry the board off. Cleaning with 99% alcohol after the fact will also help clean the board up. If you think that power board is the issue you might want to do a quick check online. I believe the power board in tapper is the same one in tron. So it may be possible to swap power boards to see if the tapper still resets or not.
