Almost there, just need to finish the side art:

Step 1: Scan all the art:

Step 2: Put the puzzle back together: (the biggest bubble #2 took 4 scans)

Bubble guide:

Step 3: Redraw all the bubbles in Adobe Illustrator (this is the step i'm on)

Step 4: Measure and line up all bubbles in correct position on cabinet

Step 5: Option to print as solvent inkjet, plotter cut ready to apply or create stencils

The artwork and process are exactly the same, just reversed. I haven't had the best luck actually painting stencils, the tiny details are very challenging.

If you need any reference photos, I have a very clean, unrestored, original game. I just need to get my boardset working and apply the NOS overlay I bought, but it's on the backburner.

Thanks Joey, i could use a pretty good size side shot and if you have time -measurements to put the bubbles in the right place on the cabinet.

It may take me a week or 2, but i can do this. I think I'll get multiple shots with the tape measure starting from the bottom and side edges.

Considering you go all out with every restoration why not challenge yourself with stencils? Are you really going to be happy with inkjet in the long run? If need be you could always sub the stenciling out I suppose. Besides, you could always make a few extra stencil sets and sell them to others in need :)...

Looking forward to seeing this finished regardless of what path you take :004_scool:.

I'd prefer stencils obviously but after struggling for 4 months to get 3 taito cabs done by a "professional" I'm pretty frustrated. It all started with bad stencils from gamestencils.com, wrong type of paint, smears, oversprays - just been a friggen nightmare. I would use colored vinyl for these, would look just like a painted job but without all the mess.

I respectfully disagree. Although doing it up vinyl would preserve the 'art' of it, I just don't think it would look 'great' on a wood cabinet. Looks like someone might have started on this, but not sure:

Is it just a case of someone tracing the artwork off of the cabinet? Is it the same on both sides? I may regret saying this, but since I need to move some stuff into storage over the next couple of weeks, and my Bubbles is part of that, I would be willing to trace one side onto vellum paper and ship it to Rich or whoever, if that will help get the stencils made. Let me know! I just glanced at it, and after tracing a couple of pinball cabinets, this wouldn't take me long. I already have the vellum.

The only modification from original I've done to mine is rebuild the p/s board and replace the associated connectors with crimp pins/housings. A few shots of mine, not currently working:

Joey, I've already starting re-drawing them so no need to hand draw them off your cabinet. I'm doing it from hi rez scans using illustrator. The tough part is deciding were the lines should be because every stencil is different, the overspray blurs out what should have been sharp. You can use these for stencils OR decals, they work the same, just reversed.

I was working on these but I never got a chance to finish these as other stuff got in the way and then the donor cab I was using to trace the stencils got put into storage...glad to see someone doing these..

One thing I do remember is one side has an extra faceless bubbles as opposed to the other side..can't remember which one ....just and FYI..thought it was weird but I confirmed this on several bubbles uprights..I have a beat up one I used to start tracing and a home use only one and they both had the odd numbered faces on one side....

I'd take a set of the stencils to help fund your hard work...shoot me pm when your done or if I can help at all..wish I could have saved you the work but my new arcade bldg to over all my time and its been a year plus en-devour...

Sorry for bumping a two year old thread. I am trying to find a correct Bubbles instruction card scan. I was going to try to touch-up mine but it's way too far gone, or at least beyond me fixing. All the scans I have found online have looked incorrect to me, anyways please let me know. Thanks...
