Have the three PALs for Bubble Bobble ever been cracked or reverse engineered? I ask as I have an original BB boardset that has one PAL (number 2 at location IC49) that is getting extremely hot (and the boardset won't even boot).

Thanks

Read a thread once, on here i am pretty sure that talked about the PALs and that if yours was bad the best thing to do was find another board to steal it.

I have a Bubble bobble that starts and plays fine for about 4-5 minutes, then the screen goes white washed... and plays with a white screen. Never thought to check one of those chips. Maybe thats what is going wrong!

I will look around to see if i can find the thread i read about getting the PAL chips...

Thanks. I was hoping that by now, what with PAL crackers like Geroge MacDonald and various people here who reverse engineer protected chips, that someone would have created a replacement.

I hope they start doing something like this for the Nintendo PPU chips. They are becoming harder and harder to find!!!

Quite, as are many other custom chips from various boards.

It does seem a shame that I have an original Bubble Bobble boardset which I can't repair due to the lack of a PAL. Here's hoping that there's a dump of one (or all three), somewhere. :)

True. I don't think there is a dump floating around though. May want to make a request over at Mameworld to see if one of the MAME devs can dump it. You may have to have some good pals to donate though so that they can dump it.
