A friend of mine says that he is getting the "I/O Error" message with an original Bubble Bobble boardset. He's probably going to send it to me to take a look at it, however it looks to me like there might be other external causes such as a bad Ground, stuck coin input in the cab, etc.

I'd like to get as much info as possible before I get back to him - are there any other likely causes of this error, either on the boardset or in the cab?

Thanks

Wiring short in the cab... shorted input on the board...

Pretty easy to check for those 2 if you have a logic probe.

Thanks very much, I'll suggest to him that he gets hold of a logic probe.

Does that error apply to ANY input, ie controls, jump & bubble buttons, coin inputs, etc?

If you put the probe on the button input line at the connector you will be able to watch (or hear) it change state if somebody presses the button. It is difficult to do this by yourself (unless you have a third arm long enough to reach the buttons, or a prehensile tail ).
