Well I have a chance to pick up a Revenge From Mars pinball for $600, thing is I am told the CPU is bad, but not positive on it. I havent tried turning it on or look under the playfield yet, going to prob tmw.

What should I look for?? Cab is ok, couple areas the art is messed up, playfield is decent could use a good cleaning which I do with my pins anyways. Am I getting in over my head at that price??

I would buy it in a heartbeat personally. Assuming it's in good condition. There's always NuCore which would add considerably to the overall cost but I would just try to find an original motherboard or just the CPU. Assuming the thing is even bad in the first place. Could be a bad hard drive, RAM, etc...

I wouldn't say you're getting in over your head on the price. Whether you're getting in over your head regarding repairs is up to you.

You need to open it up and inspect it. If it does not have hacked wiring and you made sure ALL of the boards are there - grab it - but please try to haggle first :). After all, it does not work. :):)

even if you had to part it out (and I am NOT suggesting that) - the sum of the parts are easily worth more than $600 assuming it is not hacked or burned up.

Oh I think I have some haggle room for sure, he just threw the price out and sounded as if he felt like it was high for something not working...

I'd get it.

Rob Anthony ( posts on RGP as Borygard ) is tops on fixing P2K electronics.

Even if you need a new motherboard or something, for under a grand you'd have a nice game.

As others said, be sure it is complete.

LTG :)

as long as its not missing parts basket case hacked up piece of garbage I would be all over it for 600...

There was a CPU on Ebay for $850 as of yesterday. Check completed listings. It ended with no bids so maybe you can haggle? Even if it's not available I'd be all over that deal with a little haggling.

The MB prob has bad caps, it's common. Could also be a dead power supply for the computer.

There are no hard drive, only a rom board with the code. If you remove the CPU box, you can pull the PRISM card (the rom card) and hook it up the computer to a VGA monitor, you should get a POST screen.

I bought a board off ebay a while back that had bad caps and didn't work. I was able to fix it replacing the bad caps... mind you it's alot harder on the computer boards, as the through holes are very small.

I would replace the power supply no matter what.

I've repaired several LCD monitors and a graphics card with info from that site.

Even at $600 it's a pretty good deal. And if you can't fix it you can probably resell it later and get all your money back.

No thats a horrible deal. Give me the info so I can call him and let him know this!!! LOL
