broke the convergence rings on my K7000 tube.. now what?

the rings on the tube for my MK2 K7000 still had the factory glue on them and were cracked, and when I tried turning one of them the tab and a chunk of the ring came with it. (whoops) which is what I'm guessing caused the messed up convergence on the tube in the first place? I had a spare set from a Zenith tube I junked last year (the guns were permashorted) and when I tried adjusting those to the positions of the original rings, well, that completely broke.

is there anything else I can do at this juncture besides a tube swap? cause I doubt someone has some rings off a Zenith A63whatever conveniently laying around.

i have rings off several different types of monitors.
i could send them to you and use them to fix your problems.

from what i have seen and done as long as the rings fit the neck they work.

and if i look around a bit i think i have a set of K7000 rings around here somewhere. but no promises.

pay the shipping and they can be yours.
Pm me if you want them.
or better yet call me it would be better.

Peace
Buffett

thanks boss, I'll definitely take you up on that. I'll give you a ring later if I get a chance/remember to. things get pretty chaotic at work at times.

so the new set of rings do I just position them the same way as the ones I took off? I was trying to do that and it just snapped the middle rings on my replacement set like a pretzel.

Weaksauce, I've got a 27" sitting outside i could snag some rings off of as well if needed (not sure they're the same size as a 25 but worth a try in a pinch).

cool no prob.

work and life are busy i know.:)

I'll take a gander around and see if i can spot the K7 box of stuff i have laying around here somewhere.

Peace

You never know what people have.....laying around;)

This is (maybe) 10% of what I actually have....and the majority, I have labeled what monitor they came from. PM me if others fall through.

Just look for a cheap small-neck TV at Goodwill - 20" so you don't waste the tube - and pull the rings off of that...

Hey mod, our favorite Toshiba monitor got junked over the winter. I kept the yoke and rings off it, so I just threw those rings on. They need major adjustment on the tube but I got it running again at least.

Does it matter that the one set of rings has the adjustment flaps (whatever the technical term is) on both sides versus 1 like the Zenith rings?

Im slated to pick up a 25" Zenith (for one of my U5000s) prob tues and the guy has a little 22" to throw in the deal.. so those could work maybe? I forget the make, I think its a Sharp.

well after some tinkering around last night, this is what I came up with. at least on the story screen Liu Kang doesn't have this thick blue outline to the left of him anymore. :)

I imagine the track lights don't make it look so nice, but the center of the crosshatch is pretty spot-on. should've taken the pic with the glass off still, cause it gives it a double vision effect. there aren't a whole lot of convergence tabs on this tube so it doesn't look too great along the edges. nonetheless, job well done with a set of Toshiba rings.

Wow. I have the same problem with a K7000 in my Lethal Enforcers. They apparently got quote hot and brittle over the years, my attempt to unglue them for adjustment broke a couple of them. I didn't realize they were so modular and easily replacable as a unit. Maybe I'll try pulling the whole ring set off of it and measure the ID.

Any of those offers for rings extend beyond the OP? (sorry for the pile-on, btw...)

Just asking but why does everything look purple? I thought the crosshatch was white originally? Even the sub-zero pic looks like it has a purple tint.

Could be a combination of the camera and lighting. I use my phone. Color bar test makes the blue look a wee tad hot though. I think the green is going bad on the tube though, its over 20 years old, but in-game it looks decent enough.

Ahh pretty sweet! Convergence rings for me were a b*tch.. I swear I spent a total of 5 hours on it and it's still not perfect. Well done then! lol
