t's been a few years since my last pick up - kids, family health issues, etc. But today was a good good day as I checked off the last NEED game on my list.

When I first started collecting all I wanted was a shuffle bowler, a Chexx, Michael Jackson Moonwalker and a Buster Brothers. A weird mix, I know, but all held a special place in my memory growing up in the '90s at Chuck E Cheese.

I've been looking for a reasonably priced Chexx since the beginning and today I grabbed one for $400. I thought it was going to be haggard, non-working and missing parts. Not the case. It needs a little love but it plays well as is.

I am a little confused though. Obviously this is a red base so it just struck me as odd that the graphics say Chexx, it's a long CPU and the scoreboard is USA v Russia. I know ICE made Chexx with red bases for Canada so I thought maybe that's what I had but it doesn't make sense with the scoreboard and the USA graphics on the base and back access door. Anyone have any thoughts?

Thats a really good price.
Those things are expensive new (like 3K).
I would have snatched that up too.

Did the players come with it?

That is odd. I was also under the impression that red ones (until super chexx) were Canadian models. What's the model number? Maybe it's one of the last Chexx models before they switched to Super.
Also, I have a Chexx, as well as one of my friends on KLOV, and neither of ours have the sticker you show that explains the periods. Cool!

The model # on the back door is CX-83. I'm definitely confused by it. I've been trying to find info on whether they did a run of red USA Chexx in 1983 but haven't been able to find anything.

We have a red Chexx (Circa '83) at Yestercades in NJ.

I haven't seen one of those in over 30 years. I vaguely remember one at my favorite arcade in '82 but that was so long ago. I thought it had a blue base but I could be wrong. I always thought that was cool but I played the vids. I don't think I played the one they had. Other games like Paperboy, Bagman, Moon Patrol, Super Pac-Man and the sitdown versions of Pole Position and Spy Hunter got my quarters.

Forget the pickup, THIS is the best part. My almost 3 year old daughter helped me "fix" (put the players on) the Chexx today. After that she kept asking to play it throughout the day and even corralled family that come over for dinner tonight and made them play too.

She's been into Ms Pacman since she was about 18 months but now to have her excited about other games and interested in how they work is awesome.

Thats is the best. Our kids are totally into our games, which makes it even more fun. I picked up a Nintendo Red Tent last week where I had to drive 7 hours round trip to get it. I.E. I wound up unloading it and bringing it in the house after my two kids were in bed. They both woke me up in the morning to inform me that there was a new game in the game room. My response was "really? What is it?, lets go check it out". Then I spent the rest of the morning playing VS balloon fight with them.

The scoreboard style indicates it is the older style Chexx to me. Be careful, the fan in those screboards can go out and cause issues. There are LED replacements kits if it happens. I just rebuilt a Super Chexx (I owned the older style Super Chexx before USA vs Canada).
