Brofest 2017?

Brofest is even listed on Clint's aurcade website. I would say it is definitely on.

Since I probably won't be picking up a game on the way up this time, any bikers interested in road trip?

If I were in the right direction I would of been up for this. It would of given me a chance to put some miles on my bike. I never seem to find time to ride it.

It seems really low key this year. Where are people staying? I went the first year and I can't remember what motel I stayed at. It was right near the main one everyone else stayed at.

The whole situation is garbage. An official word of "hey we aren't doing this anymore who wants to pick it up" would have been nice. It hurts Funspot, it hurts the community, and it hurts the chances of future events. Saying that it was ok and then this radio silence and no planning - dick move.

So hopefully someone closer can take the reigns for next year - if there is a next year. I can understand being skittish letting someone plan an event after getting screwed this year.

In all fairness to John, he's got a lot on his plate right now. Shit happens and I think he has had good intentions for this years event but real life can sometimes get int he way. I'm all for just making this year a hang out and not worrying about about hosting a tourney, raffles and whatever. Let's just go hang out, drink beer and play games.

And that's fine. Everyone gets busy. I certainly couldn't organize it.

But don't go radio silence, then "announce" like a month and a half away, and then disappear. That is straight ego talking. If I can't have it nobody will?

Other folks have been talking (or hushed) for months about this. It's been clear since at least February that this was going to be a disaster but we all just waited for John to say the word.

It is poorly handled. I hope that the tournament can recover and that it is taken over by someone who can humbly and reliably represent the collectors and community.

The event was never organized by Clint... So I would take that with a grain of salt.

well my comment was 2 months ago and no word since then, so will take it with a pound of salt. Do you have definitive intel?

This event IMO requires 11 months of work to organize prizes, online registration, motel deals, volunteers, MULTIPLE score takers, Funspot deals (drinks/tavern food), etc..........

I even think collectors should secretly bring some machines to be used in the tournament so we don't have the SAME OLD GAMES.

I'm spitballing here and will stop. I go to Funspot every year on that June weekend and haven't played in THEE tourney in years for various reasons. I enjoy the little group of people I hang with and play my faves along with pins and do the weirs night life.

Radio silence does suck. It's kinda the opposite of a good marketing strategy to promote a fun event and get everyone hyped. But everyone does things differently and a busy life can disrupt the best laid plans.

Geez... It's a public business...

Go or don't go...
Play games or don't...
Get drunk at the naswa or don't...

Doesn't need to be "organized".

I'm pretty sure John got bizzy as fuck over the last year with his two new barcades, 2 to 10 different podcasts, his no carb diet, etc. Just so everyone knows, he hasn't spoken to either Jow or I but maybe twice in the last 6-7 months. I have contacted him a couple different times via text, to which I get one or two word responses and then radio silence for a few more months. I've had a blast at both Brofest and Grinkfest the last few years, and was hoping we could re-ignite the podcast and continue these traditions. Now that my nightmare remodel is over and I'm finally in my new house, I will have more time to get together with Jow, John, Gack, 34K and most of the arcade hang out crew to help organize these things again. It just seems that the end of my time consuming adventure coincided with the middle of theirs. Now that I have sound studio space again, I'm hoping the podcast can start back up before summer, so we can start promoting and getting ready for Grinkfest in October. Then we can shift the focus back to Brofest for next year. I can't speak for John or Jow, but that's where I'm at. If I wasn't so damn hard to get to Nasswa and Weirs Beach from one of the 'nearest' airports, I'd probably fly out this year for the fuck of it.

Ok it's official, it IS HAPPENING on the weekend after Memorial Day and that's from the man himself, he talks about it while reading viewer comments at the end of the video:

Not surprisingly the bottom line is he's just been busy as hell, but it sounds like he has every intention of following through and plans to start getting things organized soon.

This doesn't just go for you but anyone who is needing a lift from a airport. I drive right by the Portland Maine airport and it's about a 2 hour drive from there. Last year I picked up David(Supersterns on klov) at the airport and we drove down. If anyone needs a lift from Portland Maine I can grab up to 4 people. All the flights would want to be near the same time coming and leaving though so no one is having to hang out to long.

Haha, I think the fella is burning out :) He does waaaay too much, or so it seems.

He replied to an email I sent asking if Brofest is happening. "Yes" is what he replied.

Maybe John should invest in a personal assistant.
