Bringing Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT) Back From The Dead

After years of trying to find a TMNT machine near by where I live I finally gave up and decided to find a TMNT machine that has been converted and convert it back. Back in February I found one that had been previously converted to a Golden Tee. I picked it up from Glenview, IL. I got it home and found some tokens in the machine that were from Galaxy World, and Brunswick Zone. Now for the restoration to begin. The cabinet is in decent condition but will need some bondo on the corners along with a a repaint on the front and back. I peeled back the black vinyl on the sides of the cabinet and unfortunately the original side art was missing. I've been searching for parts and have so far found just about everything I need. The restoration begins:

I will share my progress on here to. My cabinet damage luckily is on the side at the back base. Let's make this a race.

Sounds like a plan. Can't wait to make some progress on this restore. Cant wait to see how your tmnt machine turns out too. Are you going to roll the front and back or spray it? I also put an order in for new t-molding. Heads up to anyone doing a restore on a konami cab. The type of t-molding you want is black 3/4 with texture. Some also call it leather texture. I think the total amount needed is about 22 ft for these cabinets but t-molding.com has a deal where you can get 25 ft for the price of 20ft. I think they call it a poker table special or something like that.

As if Golden Tee would get more play than TMNT... Whoever converted that cab is a moron.

Look forward to seeing some progress on this one mate, it's one of my favourite games. Cowabunga dude :)

Ya I ended up selling the bill acceptor and frame assembly on ebay. I picked up a nice upper lower coin door assembly from scott on the forum. His user name was R5G. Shawn1976 hooked me up on a jumper harness that goes between the main harness and power supply. A lot of members have helped me out on this and i've learned a lot. I even found an original TMNT speaker from HAVASUGAMEMAN to replace the car 6x9 they had installed in the cabinet. It's getting there. I have it all assembled with the new cpo. The game plays awesome. Now I need to pull it apart to paint the top back and sides along with some bondo and side art. I know this has been talked about over and over but would rustoleum satin finish in a spray can go on nice for the cabinet front/back/top? What do you guys think? Thanks - Justin

Good luck with the restore! I was just thinking the other day how so many dedicated JAMMA classics were converted over the years. TMNT is one of those that you'd have an easier time finding converted like you have. I've had to do that for a few of my games too, but it's very rewarding. :)

Ya I think it will be awesome once its done and i'll appreciate it a lot more knowing that I worked on it. Here are some progress pictures. I used a heat gun to take off the old cpo then used acetone to wipe off all of the old sticky residue from the cpo and the old paint. There were a couple gouges from when the old cpo was partially cut in the past. I put a thin layer of bondo on it, sanded it down with fine grit sand paper then used some quick dry spray on polyurethane. I ended up putting on 4 coats and waited a week for it to cure. Then I put the new CPO on and cleaned up the buttons and joysticks. I installed the other correct upper/lower coin door assembly, installed the marquee and fired the game up. Next step will be to tear it back down and paint/apply side art. In the meantime now I get to enjoy playing this hero in a half shell.

Do you need yellow buttons for Michalanglo controls? I have a couple yellow buttons, holders and leaf switchs I'm willing to part with. Just let me know!

I need leaf switch bases that fit the nos shafts if you have them. If fleet wood doesn't need the buttons I may want to take a looksy.

Thanks a lot for the offer man! I actually found a set from shawn 1976. I think Dantebean was looking for some bases if you have any of those for his restoration. Thanks - Justin

I have a question. I have a Soul Calibur that must have been converted from another cab because my cabinet looks 100% exactly the same. Did they make a lot of cabinets this style? I am converting my to a TNMT as well. I look under the control panel and it was originally 4 players and the holes were covered up.

Another Klover had soul caliber without 4 slots made for 4players. soul caliber cabinet does match TMNT exactly. Here is the layout.

careful using those jakobud schematics they're known to be off.

also most soul cal's i've seen have been in midway cabinets which are different than the one used by the simpsons and tmnt, easiest way to tell is the konami cabinet has routed out speaker grilles while the midway cab has a screwed on mesh grill.

wow, sorry OP, thread derailment
