I have a few issues with my Breakout machine

#1 - the controller is WAY TOO TOUCHY - I replaced the pot but it still is very touchy. Seems more so on the left side of the screen... not sure what is causing that. It is not a clean left to right motion - its ok on the right side but the left side of the screen the thing moves so fast its just a blurr (picture shows spot where it is the MOST touchy)

#2 - Player one / Player two start switches do not illuminate - replaced bulbs - still dont work.

#3 - Serve button does not light up - replaced whole assembly and it still doesnt work.

Any ideas from the B&W specialty peeps??

Flynn

Breakout...

anyone? this game is nice - I just wish it played correctly

Great game! Screen image looks VERY nice.

Tricky question...I'll give it a shot but need a little more information.

Does the game coin up and advance the meter count by one? Can you play a complete game even though the paddle is screwed up?

Without knowing more.....my guess is replace C20 and C21 for the paddle.

Check transistors Q1 and Q3 for the start sequence that is screwy....

Good luck!

It does coin up = does not advance meter - but Im not sure that the meter is even wired properly - I did have to rewire the 25 cents light on the door as the wiring was cut to that - so I will look more closely and see if the wiring looks complete to the counter.

I DO notice that when I coin it up - (using the credit switch I installed) that the screen dims for a moment while I am coining it up...

Yes I can - game plays fine other than that

Before you go too crazy with swapping parts, check the new pot.

You want a linear taper pot and NOT and "audio taper" pot. It sounds like you have an audio taper in there.

I agree. Check to make sure the pot is a linear taper pot. If that's ok, then I think your game is behaving "correctly".

I just simulated the pot position circuit, based on the schematics downloaded from KLOV. According to the sim, the paddle delay (position) should change more as you turn the pot counterclockwise. I guess that's at the left side of the screen. This is based on a linear taper pot, BTW. I don't know how drastic the effect is visually, but it's really there.

If you want a linear response, you need to omit R53. But doing that limits the paddle movement to the left half of the screen., so you need to increase the pot value to compensate. A 10k pot works in simulation, but YMMV.
