Hey everyone, I got the Zaxxon Braze kit from highscoresaves.com, but the riser pins on the card are not tall enough to clear the adjacent chips and sockets, and so the pins are barely going in and not making contact.

See the pic for details, you can see my card is touching the chips, and I've pushed it in as far as it will go. The sockets are all original.

Is this a common issue with these kits?

Is there any kind of piggyback socket I can buy to raise this up a little and make it work?

I'm gonna return this if I can't find a workaround. Joe says lots of them have been sold and never a problem like this. Did I just get one with incorrect riser pins?

I thought about those machine pin sockets, but was worried about two things, 1) will the round machine pins fit in the single wipe original socket? and 2) Will the square shaped riser pins on the hss kit fit the round holes of the spacer socket?

I also thought about a 40 pin zif socket. They are a little taller than a standard socket.

The thicker headers fit in a standard socket if you need to raise the height. I just checked my Zaxxon pcb and the kit fits in the original socket ok, just a firm push.

Seen your email too, thought I'd reply here for future questions from customers....remember, Braze has had this kit for 17 years! :)
Hope that helps

I can't put a standard socket on top of my existing socket, since a standard socket has solder tail legs, thin short legs that are intended to be soldered through hole.

A machine tooled socket has longer, stronger round pins, that should fit my existing socket, but the tops of those machine tooled sockets do not have regular wipe connectors, they have round holes that it looks like only other round pins will fit in. The pins on the HSS kit are square. Square peg, round hole, is it gonna fit? :)

The square pins won't go in a machine pin socket. I assume the two chips that it's hitting aren't ones that can be removed due to the kit? (i.e. ROM saver).

Just pull back on the joystick to clear the socket.
