Braze kit for Space Invaders showing Self-Test error

I have the Braze Space Invaders kit installed. I hadnt powered the board up in a couple of years so its sat in my garage. I just installed a new Arcadeshop switching power supply as I had been wanting to do that for a while and finally bought a few of these to do.

That part was successful and the game boots up......mostly.

At first, it comes up to a garbled screen.....the Braze notes indicating it may be doing some extensive self-diags so I was ok with waiting. After about 5 mins, SOMETIMES, it would come up to the Self-Test results screen. I will attach that picture.

It fails on Bit Error but passes on all the other checks. It does spit out a code too.

00 4F 4F

How do I interpret this screen and correlate to what the game is not doing?

Now, it asks me at that point to press P1 and P2 at same time....but nothing on the control panel responds. I tried a spare CP, same issue....wires are ok I am pretty sure.

Sometimes, when I power cycle, the garbled screen never goes away to the Self Test Results...just stays garbled...

For anyone who wants to know, I also am attaching a picture of how I installed the switching power supply in the Space Invaders cab. The PS is not "mounted" yet but thats the easy part...the hard part was actually sorting out how to tap into the AC...I did the one on my Super Pac-Man and it was a bit simpler to do than this one....For this I had to cut off a few wire ties and loosen the tension on a couple of wires.....and I did NOT use the taps...those suck big time...i tried them and either broke the tap or the tap didnt penetrate the stupid wire...so I cut all the wires and used the tube connectors and crimped those on the wires really well...and thats how I get solid connections now. Just a note on that.

Any advice on this Si error tho ;)? I very much appreciate it!!!

Thanks for the link. I did read that prior to posting but just wondering if there were any other detailed info out there....sounds like this error happens alot....

Not this time around. But it did work the last time I had the SI cab out using the kit....(that was about 2 years or so ago...)

Something is sketchy here....I thought I had some power issues but I feel that part is done now that I have a switcher in there...so now I have this bit error...I have never got that error before...

I would really like to know what those codes mean that came up....it seems that everyone who posted that had a bit error has different codes...

I did some more research and post reading...so I am guessing that the "bit shifter" chips on the motherboard are at locations A4,B4,C4, and D4 as noted on the sketch diagram in the book and sometimes posted online.

I ordered 4 of these 25S10 chips for $5 each from Twisty Wrist Arcade.

I am going to do some due diligence with the originals first as I really dont want to have to desolder and solder...but will if I have to.

RAM checks out, per the Braze self-test...so assuming that is all good.

I also ordered a replacement edge connector. That will be a fun project too. Hoping between these two things, the game will become solid.

use flush cutters on the old chips, leaving the legs behind. touch your regular iron to the legs and pull them out with pliers. unless you have very good desoldering tools I recommend against trying to desolder the old chips out. also be certain to add new solder to each point before doing anything.
