It didnt even last 2 hours. The kid unboxed Modern Warfare 3 and within 2 hours he's bitching about something not working. I go see what it is and there are scratches on the surface of the disc (deep enough to feel them) and of course the game craps out.

We had taken his 360 away for 3 months and he just got it back today only to screw up the disc.... sigh....

Anyone have a copy I can barrow so I can install it to his drive? After that the system only spins up the disc to verify that theres a valid copy in the DVD player so I'm sure this disc will at least work enough to do that.

I'll do a free K7000 repair or something for you (minus flyback if it needs one).

Couldn't you go to gamestop, buy a copy used, install it, and return it for a refund? You keep the scratched one so no harm done.
I've never done this, but it is a plan..

You sure he scratched it? I've gotten discs (well, DVDs) brand-new...bought the day of release, shrink wrapped and covered in those annoying white edge stickers...which had straight scratches down one side...( |)...returned it to the store for an exchange.

Hmm... Thats a good idea. I will look into that option.

I dont know that it wasnt scratched ahead of time but its his MO to tear shit up.

One of many reasons I don't have kids...

But you might be able to exchange it wherever you got it, with receipt of course. Or hell, just take it to Wal-Mart, though I wouldn't want to brave the customer service lines this time of year.

There's also always rental places...even Redbox might still have MW3. I assume game rentals from those things are a dollar too? I don't know - I never use them :p

Redbox has MW3 for 2$ a night. Blockbuster here at least only rents games at 1.99 a night now, so that is an option as well.

Good luck!

If your xbox went from vertical to horizontal or the opposite while playing than that's what did it. ask if the console fell.

Usually Gamestop wont take a scratched disk back a lot of people do the buy used and swap trick so who knows

Got it out of him last night. The Xbox is vertical, he pounded on his desk, the Xbox wobbled and there you have it...

I told him that he needs to install the games to the drive BEFORE he starts playing so that the DVD doesnt need to spin while he's playing and this sort of thing woulndt happen.

Kids...

Sigh...and yeah, I'm pretty sure there's documentation in the manual now that warns against this exact thing, so it's not like it'd be covered by any kind of warranty. If I were you, I'd tell him he screwed it up and that if wants to replace it, he has to pay for it.

Of course, depending on the kid, that could present even more disastrous results...

He's already been told that he's replacing the game. He seems to be OK with it now.

May I suggest that if he's gonna keep the XBox vertical that he duct-tape it to something so that this is less likely in the future?

or don't pound things out of anger???

He's 11... Remember those things called hormones? I still beat on stuff when its pissin me off! LOL!

Anyway, Best Buy hooked us up. The game was replaced by them no questions asked. The wife had Black Tie on it.

Huh. So there IS a good reason to get that! I hardly ever shop there, and I didn't understand why I'd want to pay extra - now I know what to do when my son hits that age! (8 now, and he's actually getting better at not taking his frustrations out on breakable things).

Well spent $4.99.

If it happens again and you can't get it replaced try having it buffed out at Game Stop or one of them. My kids have had some REALLY deep scratches buffed out and the game worked again. I was very skeptical at first but it does really work some of the time
