Bulletstorm: Censored in Germany, Coming to America

Yet another uberviolent video game will be unleashed on an unsuspecting public next week. Featuring over-the-top violence, strong profanity and crude sexual innuendos, Bulletstorm shocked Germany's watchdogs, who slapped the game with an 18+ rating -- and demanded that publisher Electronic Arts (EA) significantly censor it to cut scenes of dismemberment and gore.

Heh... Fox News.

On the topic of EA... I can't think of the last good game they've made... no real need to boycott them IMO. They ruined the Burnout series... the last good game from them was probably John Madden Football for SNES.

What is really bad is that parents won't pay attention to the violence, and you will see 8 year olds playing it.

I've seen it first hand. Parent plus child came in to my store (many different pairs on many occasions) to pick up Grand Theft Auto. I would inform them of what's in it, and most of the time it was "oh, thanks, now you don't get it" but too often it was "I don't care, it's their game"

if you were to boycott anyone it should be Activision.

if your gonna boycott EA, do it for all the crap games they throw out there. its just one crap title after another and the only reason they sell is because they spend more on comercials then development probably. plus they nickle and dime you on DLC asap

i dont buy sports games but it sounds like they just update the stats and release the highest selling game every year (behind COD)

violent games are fine with me. slap the M on there and put an age limit on the purchase and call it a day. bad games dont make F'd up kids, bad parents do. the only thing sheltering does is makes them unprepared for things theyll see in the real world. little guns, blood and f'bombs never hurt anyone

Who cares. Its up to the parents to do their job.

Since it is EA it will suck. The last EA series I liked in Fight Night and the new one is terrible.

Just turned off Dead Space 2 by EA. Fun game, but not as good as the original.
Isn't their website www.yourmomhatesthis.com

You know, I have to admit, games now are FAR more gory and demented than anything previous. Nudity in games like The Godfather 2, Splatterhouse (I think they are both EA games actually) and games like Grand Theft Auto have really started to become the norm. Heck, even a "kid friendly" game like Fable has people having sex.
I don't mind it for me, but that is because I am an adult. The real issue is that the kids I teach in Elementary and Middle School are playing them.
I don't know of a kid yet that has not played COD (pick a version) and GTA.
I blame both the Parents AND the Entertainment Industry.

But don't take my word... Dead Space 2 is sitting in my 360.

There is nothing wrong with kids playing Violent games. Violent games dont make kids kill people or do drugs, I dont care what the news tells you. I grew up playing Doom and all kinds of "M" Video games and I guess I got lucky i didnt kill anyone yet.

Its just a game, let the kids play cod and lets worry about some real issues.

How is this any different than when Mortal Kombat came out? I feel its a parents job to filter their kids entertainment, not a software publishers.

This isn't the first game banned in Germany. They often require green blood and going all the way back to Carmageddon for the PC, they required the human targets you were supposed to run over to be robots or something.

It shouldn't be the government or publishers place to censor the game. When are parents going to to start being parents ? What's next start censoring the news ? Start being parents and pay attention to what your kids are doing.

Parents job straight up. I can't tell you how often I've played online and heard a ten year old cursing at the top of their lungs (while playing a MA rated game). What are their parents doing? Smoking crack in the next room? Stop spoiling your kids and act like you give a damn.

What? The game is rated "M" for mature. It's not for kids.

Should we also boycott movie companies that make "R" rated movies?

It's the parents job to determine what kids play. And, why should the adults that like these kinds of games be punished in the process? There is a market for these games just like there is a market for movies like SAW. And, they are rated accordingly.

BTW - The Bulletstorm demo was aight. I could see it being a fun co-op game like Gears.

Sorry, I tuned out when I saw "Fox News"

All I could think of was the Simpsons :

Why is it that "mature" more often than not translates to "all the stuff you giggled about in jr. high?"

Yup exactly.......parents are to blame and whats worse is when confronted about it they get all defensive and tell you your the idiot....blah. The stores that sell rated media should also be held accountable to a certain degree.

parents use video games as a way to babysit their kids. If they didnt want to care for them, maybe they shoulda pulled out. Its up to parents to enforce the "M" rating, and teach their kids the diffrence between REAL and FANTASY, and between right and wrong.

time for parents to stop trying to blame someone else for the shitty job they are doing!

BTW, NHL11 from EA kicks ass

I'll just say that I am so glad my parents gave me Doom and Wolfenstein 3D when I was 6 years old. Then Quake, Quake 2, Counter-Strike, etc. So many good memories playing those games with my friends and I have yet to feel the urge to act out violently on anyone.

Online interactions might change this for many parents though... Let's face it, when I first started playing Counter-Strike I was exposed to constant offensive and very vulgar in-game chat. I turned out alright but I can imagine a parent not wanting their kids to think the F-Bomb every other word is acceptable.

Things are getting worse as technology improves but eh I can't see it harming anybody more than anything has before. Perhaps constant depictions of sex aren't the best for the young ones but they'll find it somehow right? Haha.
