I'm normally an arcade guy but this thing was just too awesome to pass up and the price was smokin'

Found a Bally Fireball Classic. Original owner's daughter. It was about 2 miles from my house.

Now I gotta get it running, its been in a garage for 3 years and lights up, but the LEDs and game are not doing anything. I'll start checking fuses and connections this weekend.

How many flashes do you get on the MPU, if any?

Start here:

Thanks for the link :)

I think I found the problem. The battery actually has not exploded and done any damage , which is what i was expecting. Instead I found that on the cheapsqueak PCB there is an LED at C10 that was bent over against a coil, looks like the LED melted and likely shorted out.

I'll get that fixed and then check the MPU and see what I get.

Thanks for the info guys! I'm fairly new to arcades not to mention being totally new to pinballs. Looks very straight forward at this point and the documentation out there is miles ahead of what is available for arcade games.

Welcome to the addiction, er, club! Like vids, you can never stop at one - they seem to need company and you are more than happy to oblige.

I'm already having way too much fun just working on this thing. I almost like working on this more than arcade games. Everything is documented so well and there is a ton of info available.

I sorted out almost all the issues with the machine. Turns out the melted part that i thought was an LED was actually a 4.7 25volt cap. Sure looked like a melted LED but the schematic cleared up my confusion. lol. Appears that took out the fuse on the power supply at J3. Replaced the fuse and pulled the sound board, the game fires up and initializes. When I queue a credit it throws the tilt light so I'll check to see if the machine is level and then track that down if there is still an issue. I picked up a new capacitor for the cheap squawk, squeak whatever they call it... the sound PCB, just gotta solder it in place and then I should have sound.

From there a few new lamps, a new rubber ring kit and some serious waxing of the playfield and I should be in business.

Thanks for all the info and resources guys, I really appreciate it.

Nice machine! I have one as well. It has become my youngest daughter's favorite.

Once you get it up and running, make sure the spinning disk is flush with the playfield. If it sits lower you'll launch the ball into the glass and you're likely to chip some paint around the edges where the disk sits.

Let me know if you need some known voltages when you're troubleshooting. I'll be glad to help. A lot of folks on here helped me when I first jumped in and I'd like to pay it forward if I can.

Enjoy the game!

I put a new cap on C10 on the CheapSqueak, cleaned up the burn marks with some rubbing alcohol and threw a new 4 amp fuse in J3 on the power supply. That was all that was needed as far as actual electronic repairs. All voltages checked out within the proper ranges on all the test points.

I Leveled the machine, dropped a quarter and it registered a credit, but I was still getting a TILT light and the thing just wouldn't do anything after hitting START.

Then it dawned on me, I had taken all the balls out of it when I lifted the playfield. doh! Put the balls back in, fired it up and dropped a quarter - credit - good :) Hit start and the game runs great.

So all that is left is a rubber kit, some new balls and some minor paint touchup + It looks like the disc is sitting a tad low on one side. I'll bring it up and get that straight.

With purchase price and repairs I will only have about $150 into this fine machine.

I'M STOKED :)

Is this the one that was on craigslist in Sumner for $1000?

No but I did see that one, no idea if it sold and for how much. This one was listed in Covington along with a Cheyenne and GunForce.

The owner wanted $100 for each one, all of them non working but in good condition from the looks of it. I believe another KLOVer got the Cheyenne and Gunforce, which was lucky cause if I had the space I was going to load the pickup with the whole lot :)

You are out in olympia right?

Nice repair work man. Shoot us some pics of it when you clean it up. You gonna put led lights in it?

Probably not going to worry about the LED lights right now, I just replaced every lamp on the machine. :)

I'll def get some pictures up later this week. I installed new rubber rings and all that is left is some paint touchup (very minor luckily) and a little bit of red t-molding.

My kids love the thing. They pretty much want out in the garage first thing in the mornings now which will be interesting when i go back to work in Jan since I work my honest 40 hours a week in my garage. lol.
