I won a set of WoW boards with cage on an auction for pretty cheap...I was sure they wouldn't work, but also sure they weren't ALL toast, and it would be good to have them for possible spare. I plugged the whole set in, and got nothing but faint bars on the monitor, not even any sounds. No big deal. I plan to just store them until I possibly need to try and swap one out. My curiosity wants me to test each board and find out which ones still work.

I suppose swapping them into my cage one at a time would be a harmless way to test each of them...any input?

Typically I use my meter on ohms reading and check the power to the ground. Shorting out your good working system is never a good thing to do.

Sometime I will just use my Bench power supply and Feed it 2 volt to 5 volts. If the current meter pegs or blows there is no way I am plugging it into my working rig. ( Sometime a Nice thermal camera will tell you where it is shorting out.)

Hmmm...well, I guess if there is a danger of it screwing up my working boardset, I'll just sock it away somewhere until it's needed.

I am no expert by any means, but I have done this with WoW with no problems. I have even taken each board from a Robby Roto and cross checked my boards from WoW to figure out that only the ROM board on the Robby had a problem. I was nervous to do it as well, but it worked out without any problems. I suppose it could depend on what is actually wrong with the boards, but I would give it a shot.

Btw- did you buy those from someone in MI? I was going to bid on a set a couple weeks ago that the captain was selling, but missed the end of the auction.

Good luck with it!

Don't be a wuss-

Swap them one at a time into your set to see what works and what doesn't.

The fact that you plugged the entire cage into your game and nothing blew up is proof that nothing is shorted out and would cause damage to your game.

Go for it.

I may give it a shot later on, I'm just curious as to how many boards are still good. I actually bought this off a guy in Nashville. For $35, I think it's a pretty decent deal.

Ok...I tested them all tonight, no problems. The RAM boards both caused my p/s to kick out almost instantly. The Game board worked but with an upside-down picture and a stuttering Wizard voice! The other 3 boards work great.

I swap boards all the time on my jamma rig but it has a switcher ps and will kick out if a board has a dead short. Usually when these have a short its either a bad ram or one of those crappy bullet style caps.
