Bought a "working" monitor that doesnt "work": Need help with this.

Long story short I bought a monitor from ebay. 27" Samsung tube stated working. I hook it up and get solid white lines. The horizontal pot is broken off. It looks like a k7000 25" but seller stated that it was working prior to shipping. Monitor should have came with a kortek 2914f and not a wells. Didnt know a wells would even work on this tube. Need some help from you guys on this one.

Update: Seller replied and said that he will pay to replace the pot. But even with that done I dont think it will work.

Don't bother fixing something (that should be) at the center of a dispute. Demand refund and return shipping from the guy. (And actually send it back.) Dispute it with eBay if need be -- item is clearly "not as described", even as-is terms still include a guarantee against DOA if the listing claims that the item works.

Ive gotten refunds from listings that stated "as-is" "no refunds" etc. you will probably get a refund from paypal and they'll probably tell you to keep the item.

I needed a horizontal pot on my K7400 and apparently it's no longer available from WG or from Happ. Mine's kind of just dangling like a loose spring.

If you end up finding a source for one, let me know!

Does anyone know if it chassis could even work with tube. Just seeing if it could even work.
thanks in advance.

Well its not a k7000. Pics aren't too good but it looks closer to a U5000 to me. Though the K7400 and U2000 are similar. A better pic of the whole chassis would help.

It's a K7400.

Loss of vertical deflection is a common issue. Your most likely cause is a bad vertical deflection IC (U601). Sometimes that IC goes bad due to an open resistor (R303) or shorted diode (D302) near the flyback, although I've seen those parts go bad and the IC still be good, and you still have no vertical deflection.

If you have further issues, can't fix it yourself, and can't get help from the seller, I fix these chassis for $50 + parts + shipping...

Took a few more pics:

Yep you beat me to my question. Thats what I figured that the chassis would never work on this tube even if it was in working condition.

What's the tube number and yoke number? The chassis might be mismatched with the tube.

BTW - not sure what state you bought that in, but that has never been recapped/rebuilt, so I'm willing to bet you bought an "as-is, it (barely) works" monitor. I'm also willing to bet it was fairly cheap (I hope), because a fully working one that has been rebuilt should cost you about $150 or more - plus shipping...

Well, A68 is a 27" tube. There were 27" versions of the K7400, and it used the same yoke as the 25". If you have the right yoke (9A2988-01) you can convert it to a 27" by changing one resistor and adding a pincushion board.

That's assuming that tube has the proper neck pinout...

I think what he's trying to prove is that there is no way that monitor could have worked when it left the seller being the chassis is mismatched to the tube.

Basically... the seller is a liar it appears.

Yeah basically what i was trying to figure out that as it sits it wouldnt work.
