Bosconian and Pac Man Cabinets

Ms Pac and Galaga are different also!!!. Pretty sure Bosconian and Galaga are the same. That is why you see some factory white Galagas.

I thought bosconian's were shallower than galaga. Don't they have that plastic shroud bolted on the back to protect neck of the monitor?

You are correct... Bosconian and Galaga cabinets are the same, except for the shallow back. A vertical monitor will stick out the back of a Bosconian cabinet.

And I thought the Rally-X's were shallower than Galaxian/Pac-Man's too, for the same reason Bosconian was, due to the horizontal monitor. On the Galaga's that were converted from Bosconians, do they have the plastic bubble on the back to cover the monitor?

I have a Bosconian. I took some measurements and here is what I found.

Bosconian is 27 1/8th" deep, where mspac is 33 3/4" deep, same height. Wide is only about a 1/4 inch difference. The monitor in Bosconian is horizontal, where as the monitor in mspac is vertical.

I have used a bosconian to make a multicade before, and all of the standard Midway stuff fits fine (Bezel, Marquee and Control Panel) - To clarify it was converted to some crappy game and painted green.....

Just in case anyone was wondering....

Is it me or does one seem to be more Pac Man esque while the other seems more Ms. Pac Man esque?

EDIT: Different coin doors too... which is correct? I am assuming the KLOV archive one is correct being it has all the exterior artwork?

Yup... it appears that the MS. PACish cab is proper and what Brother SuperBee has is a conversion...

My Bosconian is narrower than my mspac by a good 5". I don't have a pacman cab, but I would say my Bosconian was never a Pacman. I do see the different cut between the two cabs.

Yes, the cab SuperBee has is one of the Galaxian, Pacman, Rally-X line of cabs. And I also heard something along the lines that Rally-X was shorter depth wise then Galaxian and Pacman.

Pac Man and Galaxian are the exact same. Both are the same shape, size, and
made from the same materials. Both are made from plywood. Pac Man was a
painted cabinet with silkscreened and stenciled art. The colors are stencils
and the black outlines are silkscreened onto it. Galaxian is a non painted
cabinet with vinyl silkscreened art applied to the entire surface of it.
Early run Galaxian cabs used 25" monitors.

Ms. Pac, Galaga, and Gaplus are almost the exact same cabinets with the
exception of the coin door height and monitor placement position. Galaga's
are pressed board cabs while most Ms. Pac's are plywood. The extreme end of
the Ms. Pac production run used particle board cabinets as well as all
Gaplus cabs are particle board. Early Ms. Pac's are painted the same way
that Pac Man cabs were while the later run Ms. Pac cabs are silkscreened
sticker. All Gaplus cabs are silkscreened sticker. Galaga's are sticker art
over black melamine. Late run Galaga's did not use black laminated wood.
Those are either bootleg cabs or someone elses restoration.

Bosconian cabinets are similar in cut and style to Galaga/Ms. Pac/Gaplus but
the cabs are more shallow. They also had the monitors mounted horizontally
instead of vertically. Bosconian's are made from white pressed board cabs
with stickered art applied over them.

Rally-X cabs are similar to Pac Man and Galaxian cabs except they are more
shallow as well. They are not the same as Bosconian's. The top of the cab is
different as well as the sloping angle of the front of the cab. Basically, a
Bosconian is a shallow Galaga and a Rally-X is a shallow Galaxian. Both are
about as shallow as Wizard of Wor.

Burgertime cabinets are almost the same as Ms. Pac's. The Chefs hat can be
cut off to make the game almost exactly like a Ms. Pac. The real only
difference is the upper back corners on a Burgertime slope down earlier
while the Ms. Pac cab runs all the way back on the top angle before meeting
with the back door. Most people will never know the difference anyway.
Burgertime cabs are made from plywood and use art applied the same way as
Pac Man's and early Ms. Pac Man's.

The RGAVC post is basically correct, but per the other threads that constantly bring this question up -- Not all Galaga's are particle board. Very early Galaga's are plywood like Ms.Pac but have a wood shelf/coin bucket (like Pac/Galaxian) instead of a metal frame or chrome wire to hold the coin bucket like Ms.Pac. Only a few hundrered were made, but they are out there.
