Recently picked up a bootleg Pac-Man board, it's the one in MAME that's listed as "Pac-Man on Galaxian Hardware" (has weird colors and goofy sounds). Anyway, once in awhile, during a game, the screen flips upside down (like it's player 2 in cocktail mode) and the sounds get muffled. If I die, the screen refreshes back to normal (but the sound is still muffled). Getting to the intermission fixes the sound (and flipped screen, if it's upside down) It's a small 2 board set with 2 add-on daughter boards containing ROM's labeled 5-7 on one, 9-12 on another, and 1-4 being on one of the main boards (there is no #8). I've seen some reference to "Pac-Man on Pisces hardware" that might be this board as well. (The pinouts matched for the most part to that one) Any ideas on what to look for? It just seems to do it randomly.
Thanks!

I don't have a pic handy at the moment (I can take some), but it pretty much looks just like this one (unfolded):

1 daughter board is on the left baord, mounted where the single eprom is, that one has #'s 5-7. The other one is on the right board where the 2 EPROM"s are has the daughter board with #'s 9-12. A few components are different (some on mine are missing, some on the pic are missing, etc) but the board is pretty much identical otherwise. The EPROM's are all 2716 equivalent (a mix of TMS2516, 2716 and AM4716) and all tested good (I dumped them with my burner). They all matched up with the "pacmanbl" set in MAME. My colors are different though, I didn't have the pinout for the RGB cables when I made up the harness, but I tried all 8 combinations and couldn't get any to match how it looked in MAME.

OK, finally got pics and got them downloaded to my pc. Here's pics of both boards (I didn't unfold them, but took pics of halves). Also a couple shots of the game running (and as stated, the colors might not be right, as I might have the RGB cables miswired due to not having the correct pinout)
Both board halves (parts side only):

Correct video pinouts.

It's bootleg Moon Cresta / Eagle hardware so pinouts differ from Galaxian.
Starting from the left (Z = 2 pins) of the edge connector pin 6 is Sync.
Next pin 7 is Green.
On solder side of pcb, below pin 7 will be Red.
Solder side below pin 6 will be Blue.
Then the colors should match mame. Even when the colors are "correct"
they will be way off compared to original Pacman.
Otherwise the prom would be suspect.

Check out pcb pics and pinouts for "Space Thunderbird" at crazykong.com
They are from my working pcb. While you are there look at the Eagle pcb pic
and Moon Cresta pics. Original Moon Cresta was more like Galaxian so all the
eproms are located on the riser board.

According to that pinout, I had red and green switched. I switched them, and the colors are still off (I knew they would be, as I had tried all 8 combos of the 3 RGB wires) Pac-Man is red and the maze is a bright yellow. I think I like it better the way I had it ;) Anyway, the color wasn't really my problem (I can live with that), it's the game randomly flipping upside down.

If you have a jamma adapter for it I can repair the board for you. Does that board select cocktail by grounding a pin on the EC?

I haven't got a JAMMA adapter for it, I just used some stuff I had on hand to hook it up to my Gaplus cab. I've got a 6 pin AMP connector for the video and a 15 pin for the control panel, and have the power wired up to a switcher. Yeah, it's a real ghetto harness, but it works :D I should get some parts to build one, but I'd need one of those extensions too, as the harness in my Gaplus cab is really short and I'd have to remove the PCB that's in there, since I swap out several PCB's to play other games (I only have 1 cab I can do this on. The only other cabs I have is a MAME cab, and a DK cocktail, which definitely isn't condusive to hooking up other PCB's ;) )

Well, it could be the hardware causing the funky colors. Maybe someone who is familiar with that board will see this thread. The colors do look similar to pac on galaxian hardware.
