Bob Roberts slowing things down a bit due to health issues..keep him in your thoughts

Bob Roberts is truly one of the greatest assets to this hobby! I haven't bought the most from him and it's been quite a few years now, but he has always been THE man to go to for a lot of items.

Best wishes being sent to Bob! Let's all hope for a safe and speedy recovery!

Bill

Can you even fathom what it must take not to fill all those orders, and answer all those emails...... ........... .......... but to keep all that STOCK in? Good lord, I don't even see how 1 person could keep everything ordered that he has to order.

I mean, he keeps a complete line of capacitors and resistors. Keeping that stuff in stock alone could take several hours a week. Countless ic's and transistors that nobody makes anymore. Joysticks and buttons in every color under the sun, then after that he's got oddball colors listed that he bought on clearance or whatever and added to the list. Capkits hand assembled for dozens of monitors. Jamma Harnesses alone would be a full time business. Every connector, pin, and connector housing available, even stuff they don't make anymore. A full compliment of flybacks; kits he put together with flyback/hot/fuse/caps .... cabinet parts in several sizes.

The list goes on and on. You know Bob's the type of guy too that's probably hands on with allll of that, so you can bet he's filling out every order. Plus, on top of all that, HE VIDEOTAPES THEMSELVES PACKAGING ALL THE BOXES UP!

I mean he takes it to a whole 'nother level. I hope he gets the opportunity to relax and slow it down a little bit. He's not having health issues because he's old, he's having health issues because he's a human trying to do the job of 5 robots.

Get well soon Bob! Take it easy!

I agree, I have had this thought too. The thing that really baffles me is how he able to place everything in sealed bags with labels on them. The attention to detail is second to none.

I just placed an order with him in the last week and it showed up quickly and I just got an e-mail from him saying he got his payment. So, he must be doing ok.

Good luck, Bob!

I just got this message from Bob...

"I think the doc is just behind in car notes ;-) A squirt of WD-40 ought to
keep the ticker going smoothly. When he told me my heart was noisy I told
him to not listen to it then!"

He just confirmed my parts order. The man just doesn't quit!

I've emailed orders with him before at like 11p.m., then had him email me back at 2 o'clock in the morning. I don't think he ever sleeps. when he says 20-22 hour work days, that sounds rediculous, but my grandfather was like that. He would only sleep an hour and a half each night. I never could understand it, but as he got older he just slept less and less. He would go to sleep at like 1am and wake up at 2:45 to make coffee. Craziest shit I've ever seen, and he wouldn't do it like once ever week, he'd do it every night.

Bob must be like that, just sleeps for a couple hours and gets right back up.

Good to hear he's responding to emails and he seems to be in good spirits. I swear someday it would be neat for a local person to interview Bob and/or do a mini documentary on him if he was willing. I've never seen a picture of him in all the years I've ordered parts. I'm sure a lot of us have some kind of picture in our mind of what Bob is like, but very few of us, if any, have had a chance to meet him.

I'm getting that way but I can honestly say its not good...feeling and looking like crap lately. Average anywhere from 1 to 3am when I actually go to bed.

I don't know how anyone can do that. When I worked a 3rd shift gig on the weekends I usually only got 3 or 4 hours of sleep maybe because I had a normal sleep pattern during the week. I was able to do it because it was only 2 days a week, but I can't imagine how Bob or anyone does that on a regular basis.

Maybe we should all only place our orders between 9a & 5p. Of course he'll probably just stay up all night filling orders.

There's an old picture of him at the bottom of this page...

Note the date stamp on the photo.....1963!

I'm probably half Bob's age......and there's no way in hell I could go 20 hours as day. Well, maybe I could.....but I'd be a raging ass to everyone around me. I know how I get when I pull 80-90 hour work weeks. Bob needs to pull back and treat his retirement like a job....9-to-5...all other hours are "Bob time". I know he doesn't do this for the money.....he's talked many times in the past about it being a break even (at best) venture....he does it for us! I would gladly wait a week (or better) for my orders. He needs to take care of himself!

"I need a R10 for my Bugs Bunny pinball"......I agree...Who are these numb-nuts?

So, if that pic was date stamped 63, and he looks around 20 in it, That'd make him near 70. I'd be about a third his age >_<

Time to give back guys....What do we do for him? Something that he needs and can't donate back to charity.;)

I say we take up a donation for him anyways. Even if he does give it all back to charity, "giving" can be one of healthiest thing a person can do, mentally if not even physically.

Couldn't one of the mods here set up a paypal donation "pot" that someone can write a check or money order out of to send to him?

I placed an order on Monday morning. My package arrived on Wednesday. I even got some candy and PCB mounting thingees for free. Wow, nowhere else will you get service like that. I hope he's doing well.

I haven't had to order anything from Bob in a while. Thoughts and prayers go to him and Alice. I'll try to get a card out to him. Heck, I might even send him a lagniappe. God know I've gotten a few.:)

I received a cross shipment today even though i said to put me at the bottom of any list...he included halloween candy. what a cool guy.

I have placed maybe 3 or 4 orders since this post has been made and I have not noticed any change in service. Everything seems like "status quo" to me.

Bob is AWESOME

I placed an order from Bob on Tuesday and he cross-shipped it and it arrived already!

Of course, he included some Halloween candy and a little lagniappe tool.

God bless Bob Roberts! What he does for us is awesome and I'd say we're all reaping the benefits of having him still doing this after all these years.

A stand-up person and honest businessman...
