Bob Roberts Quick Order Tool Alpha

Used this tonight. I clicked on a product link that is not a picture, but a web page. The result when I clicked back was an empty cart. :(

Otherwise very cool but here's another vote for adding other pages like the connectors page.

Ok.. So I've updated the site URL & changed some stuff slightly. Exterior Pages now load on a different page. If I do plan to do multiple pages, I'm going to have to change the way I've written the cart system a bit and add a database to it to store the cart between pages. Got some things slated will keep everyone posted.

Quick update to the tool. Something small but important.

I fixed an issue where ampersands and other special characters in the shopping list would cause the email generation to goof up and stop. So now when you go to order the "Ms Pac & others 8' AC line cord" it doesn't stop at "Ms Pac" and not finish the email.

Happy gaming!

Once again...
This rocks! and I (we I bet) thank you....
If you send me your address I'll send you any moon pies I get :)

Is it not possible to load all relevant parts pages in one shot and present them all in a single page of yours? Perhaps using tabs ("Parts", "Connectors", etc)? That would allow you to continue using your in memory cart.

You also might want to protect against accidentally closing the page or refreshing it. I don't recall the mechanism for doing this off hand, but there is a way to display a warning pop up asking the user if he really wants to navigate away. If you want to do this and don't know the mechanism I'm talking about let me know and I'll try to figure out what it is.

It is possible to pull the rest of the pages in and tabulate the data, it'd be a hell of a data load though and its sort of unfair to bob to have 2-4 pages of the entire site load even if the person just uses 1 or 2 of the pages for their order. It's sort of wasteful of bandwidth. I'm considering a database cacheing solution of the page so it cuts down on pages calls on his site but is smart enough to update every hour or something JIC he makes changes. I'm also currently thinking about moving the cart info into a client session variable so that it can be accessed across pages and it would expire after a certain time. Currently the urls of the site will open in a blank window so if you open some other page like connectors/caps it won't kill your cart but the session would be a more long term solution.

As for the site leave code. I just added that.

Be carefull! There are some people on this site that think any changes to Bob Roberts system is a deadly sin, and they will crucify you for trying to improve it. Everybody else, including me, thinks you have done a great job and want more of what you are cooking. Just sayin...

Any new info on this project???
Been busy with RL work and house work, in fear of castration by my wife.

When I get a better focus on the features I want to include in it I will put more time into it. Any new suggestions?

Cap Kits Page is up!

So I had an extra 30 minutes and a little motivation so I went ahead and put in the cap-kits page and gave it the same treatment as the parts page.

There's no navigation ATM and the styling is a little wonky but I plan on getting it in.
Groundwork is being made with this update to store your cart across pages via browser cookies. So if you left the site and came back, your order would still be there till you cleared your cache. Once this is done I can do a few more things with it like let the cart be editable, dump plaintext, etc.
Cheers!

You da man! Bump for a great idea and great project for all you web designers/computer wizards. Although, I don't know shit about creating things on the computer; I am sure someone here can contribute something useful. What do ya say guys?

All I get is this:

An Error Was Encountered
In order to use the Session class you are required to set an encryption key in your config file.

OK. Sorry for the confusion Takeman. I was in the middle of developing a huge upgrade to the system which I just completed after a few hours.

The system now stores your cart/session! So if you leave the site and come back it should restore your cart to it's previous state. This step was crucial in allowing me to do multiple pages and other features that were requested.

Also, the cap-kit page is now linked in the navigation and your cart carries over! So order parts! order cap kits! It doesn't matter!!!!!!!! It's INSANE!!!

Let me know if anything else is weird/broken.
