Bob Roberts Quick Order Tool Alpha

Wow this is nice, and i am sure it would make bobs life easier with all or most orders in a standard format versus however each individual goes about writing up their order..
Nice work. Now if we could link it to a money order generating site so we can pay via paypal lol..

Must you use an email client such as Outlook or does it work with yahoo? If it doesn't work with the yahoo/gmail types, then ciukd you have it launch textpad so we can copy/paste?

Also, if you could get it to work with safari, then those of us who want to shop during our commute could do so.

To help pull back some of the mysticism of the page. It uses whatever default email client your browser has configured to it. Yahoo and Gmail and such are just as likely candidate as apple mail and outlook. This is what I meant with "if the users system is setup properly."

Here's an older link with some code as to how to establish gmail as the configured mail client on firefox 3 (it's older but will probably still work if someone doesn't have this set up yet)
http://lifehacker.com/#!392287/set-firefox-3-to-launch-gmail-for-mailto-links

If google or hotmail is your vice, I'm sure if you do a search for "<your mail service> mailto setup" something will be there.

As for opening text pad, unfortunately this is impossible as a text editor isn't a standard browser extension and there's no way to call it from html/server script/javascript. What I could do is when I implement the "Cart Review" screen I could have it either
auto generate the email (current process) or copy the generated email contents to your clipboard, so you could just paste it into your mail client/whatever.

wow this is very useful. Have you showed it to Bob? I'm curious to see what he thinks. Thanks for the hard work put into this!

The truth is I accidentally sent him an order when I was testing it Monday and I followed up that email with another explaining not to fulfill the order as well as what I was doing.
He hasn't replied yet, unfortunately. I plan on emailing him again when I get a few more things in place and work out more of the kinks.

No thanks necessary. I've been putting this together in my head for a awhile as ordering from Bob can sometimes be a laborious process. I just figured why not share it.

YAY! Now if we can get a local proxy to buy the stuff off of bob that accepts CCs! :D

I have to say that the one time I ordered off of Bob is was super quick!

That is nifty...

...when Bob updates his page, the tool gets updated as well?

Yeah. It technically loads his pages, scrapes the content out and redisplays it. Any updates he does as long as he keeps the same format it will show on this page.

I tested it in Firefox on Linux and it worked great. Thanks for making it. Was Bob open to the idea?

Looks like a neat idea but it doesn't work for me. I have a Cox Internet connection but still use AOL 9.5 and my Email is though AOL but I tried it with regular Internet Explorer and it still doesn't work. I can view the picture links in both but nothing gets added to the cart. I just placed an order with Bob last night the old cut and past way and it works fine for me.

I tried it again and it worked fine... don't know what happened the first time (or maybe it was updated in between).
Maybe add a "view cart" button or something that just shows the contents of the email as text in a new window for those having trouble with the email end of it.

kudos again for the idea and all the effort!
cheers

I think to rectify these situations I'm going to implement a cart/review/edit at time of checkout that copies the list to a persons' clipboard so they can paste it into their email.

I may get some time to start putting this functionality in this weekend.

didnt work me in IE8 but it did in Safari

I'll research IE8. What email client do you use? As for cap kits. Bob has a different page for cap kits. This is just the main parts page.
