Bob Roberts cap-kits....no more for me

Here is one kit this is of high quality.. just put it together yesterday..

I have not decided yet if I would sell a bag of caps by themselves.

This is the third time that I run into a wrong or missing cap in one of his kits. I know Bob would make good, but the fact is that it will take time and hassle.

Apart from wether the Chinese caps are good quality or not, the _reason_ why one orders cap-kits is the ease of having to order one item, stock them and once you start working you know you've got the right values at hand.

Well this was the last time for me. I will definitely be still ordering stuff from him but not the cap-kits anymore.

I'd love to see some guys start selling HQ kits with 105 degr. caps and well known brands like Nichicon or Panasonic.

For small quantities, I'd recommend Digi-Key. They offer USPS first class mail as an option, which means shipping is usually under $3 for me. But then again, they're only 200 miles from me, and I get their orders in like a day.

Mouser offers USPS first class mail shipping too.

I don't think Jameco does.

I also put this up earlier today.. single g07 cap kit..
you get what you pay for. double the price of bobs price however his does not include shipping.
so if you were to buy the single g07 cap kit plus his shipping it would probably come out to $14.00 same as my new hq kit. I will do more for other monitors as time passes.

Chad, I have bought a few of your full k7000 kits which turned out great. Can you sell us just the cap kits? Yours are the best and come with the non polar caps. I ordered some from bob and they are all 85c caps of low quality.

So.. is it ever worth changing the large filter cap (G07 for example..) as a 'preventative' measure? How about 10 years from now? I've never replaced one, just wondering what the techies think. Thx..
 
Since I've been using my ESR meter it looks like that in general the bigger the cap,the less likely it seems to fail.

FI I still have to find my first bad Big Blue...
 
Hello I just purchased the k7000 flyback and cap as well as the flyback, cap with hot and in both kits I am missing the C40 replacement. I contacted bob but he told me nobody else has messaged about it missing in their shipment and hasn't had a missing cap in 7 years. Maybe nobody complained because it is impossible to reach without removing the hot and flyback so nobody has bothered. :( He said he will check the video but it may be erased. I double checked everything and the only cap not used in the open bag is c204. The unopened bag is missing it as well so I am thinking the part was left out of the entire batch by mistake. I guess I will wait and see if he comes up with anything. Haven't had any problems in the past.

Has anybody else received a k7000 recently missing the c40?

According to Bob ".....it is highly unlikely that you would get 2 kits
out of a batch of 50 missing that same cap... odds are astronomical....." so if you are experiencing the same I am going to email him again and ask him to look at one of his kits on his shelf.

This is why I won't do business with Bob. Anyone who is that full of themselves and refuses to admit they could have made a mistake but also insinuates the customer is lying is not worth my time or money.
 
For the record, out of 15+ kits I've ordered from Bob, I've had a single K7000 kit which had two incorrect caps. I sent him a polite email saying I had a problem, and I got a polite response with a "sorry," and the correct components in the mail.
 
For the record the emails I sent were very polite and merely stated I am missing the c40 I both packages. I have to admit I was taken back by his initial email that included my quote above. My last email asked him to check the other packages he has in stock to validate. I did not recieve any validation (or appology) but he emailed me that the parts are being shipped. I am not ragging on the guy and by his initial response I can only imagine how many people try and screw him on a daily basis, although, would have been nice for him to look into it before the "that's impossible response". Regardless he has made good on the error so I am happy now. Back to repairing my APB and Road blaster!
