I know on certain games, you can just swap out the PCB and its just plug and play...just curious if anyone knows off hand if there are any that are interchangeable with POPEYE (not looking to change out the monitor or having to deal with any extremely involving cable swaps, as I want to keep POPEYE stock, just would like to play another game)

Thanks!

I'm not sure about the power differences, but popeye is horizontally oriented so w/o rotating the monitor I think you're either playing Mario Bros, or more Popeye.

I have a MB cab (converted from RS) and I have a Popeye PCB. Haven't tried it yet though.
I think in theory most stuff is 1:1.

I will have to add 4-way play (mechanically already done, but not wired yet) but you should be good to go. However, IIRC the Popeye has card-edge connectors and my MB is with those tiny connectors...

I have read that the power supply in Popeye has lower current ratings than that used by other Nintendo games. I don't know if the current drawn by Nintendo boardsets differs enough to cause a problem, though.

I swap a Popeye pcb into my Mario Bros. cab and it works fine. I'd think swapping a Mario Bros. pcb into a Popeye cab should work just the same.

Sweet, sounds like I will have to pick up a Mario Bros and give it a try!

You'll have to add another joystick and button (if you want to play a two player game).

Also, if you have an original Popeye power supply......it won't work. A Popeye power supply outputs 5VDC and 24VDC.......Mario Bros. needs additional 12VDC and -5VDC.

I knew there was something. I remember seeing something like that in a Nintendo conversion manual. I think it was about putting Vs. boards into a Popeye cabinet.

perhaps I should re-title this thread to: "Should I convert POPEYE to MARIO BROS?"

I hate to alter (by converting) an orginal cabinet to another one just because I would play the hell out of MB, I just kind of think thats a little bit selfish.....any thoughts????

I would leave Popeye as-is and just buy a Mario Bros., there are still plenty MBs out there. Who knows, you might even track down a MB widebody.

almost forgot about the wide body :) after thinking it over and hearing other sane words of advice, I will leave popeye how she is, I'll just have to pick up a dedicated mario bros to add to the collection!

thanks for the good advice!

Start sticking games into the kids' rooms, bathrooms, wherever you can. I warned you that this was an addiction, you apparently didn't listen. ;)

and on that note, I will be picking up a wide body Mario Bros on wed! A few weeks ago, I placed an ad on the CL , wanting to buy an original MB, and I got a reply from a guy with a mario bros, and he's close too :) good price and in great shape, I just have to get side art and replace the graphics on the joy pad area.........
