Just got a Blue Elf 309 in 1.

I didn't bother doing a kick harness yet, just plugged in the JAMMA harness.
I can coin up, but thats it.

I can enter the set-up menu and the main game list but can not start or select any games or move the set up list up or down, or change any values.

The demo mode is running fine with sound, but can't do anything.

I did unplug and re-plug in the JAMMA, its nice and tight.

Any idea's?

Thanks.
Dan

check where your CP ground is going to. It's probably going to one of the pins on the BE2 board that is re-assigned to button 6.

You have to coin-up before you can do anything on the regular game menu. That shouldn't be an issue in test mode though. Just make sure you have modified your JAMMA harness to meet the Blue Elfs pinout that Prairied posted. And check what he said, make sure your control panel grounds are still grounded, not disconected.

Ya, Nixs PM'ed me, turns out you have to cut a ground from the JAMMA harness.
I had no idea, I'm just gonna sell this thing.

Thanks for the help guys

Guess I got lucky with my JAMMA setup - it works fine with the 309 and other boards as well and I didn't have to cut anything.

Once you get a JAMMA edge connector set up for the Blue Elf it will work with alot of other JAMMA games. I've plugged several CPS1 boards into the cab with my Blue Elf board and they work fine.

did you not understand my post?

did you not understand my post?

No, like I told Nixs, I didn't understand what was getting spliced with what.
I understand to cut the ground on the JAMMA harness (second to last wire I think?)

What I don't get is what am I slicing that ground too?

I told Nick, If I could see a picture of what I need to do, I can solder it, but understanding the JAMMA harness picture is like reading Greek to me.
I just never bothered to try to figure it out. Maybe its time...

I do appreciate you're time, thanks.

You are correct about which wires to cut, the second to last set on the edge connector. Those wires (the ends that are running to the cab, not the board) then get spiced into the the last set of wires on the edge connector, which are also grounds.

The wire set you cut that are running into the edge connector will then become player 1 & 2 buttons "6" or "F", which ever you prefer to call them.

Man, I am retarded, cause I'm still a bit confused.

What do you mean by...
"The ends that are running to the cab, not the board"

So, the second to last wires get cut and spliced with the 2 wires beside them, last in the row?
They are all grounds?

This also confused me...
"The wire set you cut that are running into the edge connector will then become player 1 & 2 buttons"

Kind of lost there, If I'm just tying grounds together, I don't get what is becoming Player 1 & 2 buttons?

PLEASE be patient, I am trying to understand ;)
Thanks a lot...

know your JAMMA

you have a mess of cabs.

You really need to understand how a cab is wired up.

Then look closely at the Blue Elf and how it maps the P1 and P1 6th buttons. It substitutes in for a common ground.

The reason why JAMMA gives you four grounds is cause so many things need the common ground wire. You can just splice them in together since they are all the same common ground.

All buttons in your cab including test, service and coin mechs use the same common ground going to the JAMMA harness. (NOT EARTH GROUND)

Most likely your button harness was going to pin 27/e on the JAMMA harness. Once plugged into a board (BLUE ELF) where it's not assigned it to ground then those wires no longer are connected to ground.

That's probably the problem.

This is what scared me to begin with.
I have an original MK4 machine.
This is what I use to swap around all my horiz boards.
I didn't really want to splice into the harness.

I know there we're adapters made for the Blue Elf boards, I wonder if I could still find one?

If not, then I'll cut it, thanks a lot for everyone's time...
Dan.

O.k., check out my pic. Cut the wires as shown. Connect no. 2 to no. 4. Then connect that joined connection to no. 3. No. 1 will need to be wired to either player 1 or 2's 6th button. Worry about that after you get it working.

YOU MUST DO THIS WITH BOTH THE SOLDER SIDE AND THE COMPONENT SIDE OF THE EDGE CONNECTOR. Do one side of the edge connector and then flip it over and do the same thing to the other side.

See, those directions a child could understand, unfortunately that's just what I needed.
That I can handle.
Thanks a lot for the extra effort, I really appreciated it.
