i bought a blue elf2 awhile back and bought a converter from prairre and no matter what i have never been able to get the joysticks to work do you guys think its defective

Do you mean you can't go through the menu at all? Did you coin up first? You have to coin up in order to navigate through the menu.

And no offense, the Blue Elf 2 sucks. It's like MAME on a board/cart, but half the games are crap and not all of them run very well except maybe the MVS games. But you get what you pay for I suppose.

You need to combine the ground wires of the Jamma harness to make the controls work. Yank the wire from the 27 pin in your harness and splice it to the 28 pin. This should make your inputs work properly.

My adaptor does that already. (Connects 27 w/ 28 and sends the blue elf side to a CPS1 Kick)

Is it just the joysticks or all buttons also? If anything works then the ground for those joysticks should go to the same ground..
I had asked you to track down your control panel harness ground and see where it goes. It should go to the last two pins on either side of the adaptor. (28 and f)

Pictures would also help. All this time passed and you didn't tell me it didn't work... or that you haven't figured out how to do what I had asked of you.

if you pay shipping both ways, I would test it for you no problem.

Do you really even need an adapter for the blue elf 2? Maybe try it without the adapter hookup the ground properly for the blue elf pinout. It's just a jamma pinout with a minor change to the ground pins no?

Maybe run a ground directly from your power supply to your joysticks/buttons daisy chain.

Definately a ground issue

yes you don't need an adaptor if are willing to rewire the CP and the cab.
I built him one that plugs into a a CPS1 harness and where he doesn't have to re-wire the commonly grounded 27 for the CP.

ah so the adapter is just for the extra kick buttons don't have to be re-wired

so for testing purposes of the blue elf 2, he could try it without the adapter, and run a ground straight from his power supply to his ground for the joysticks & buttons to make sure the Blue Elf 2 itself actually works.

yup I asked him to track down the ground and see where it's going since that's probably the culprit.

Pics also help... he he really was persistant, this would be fixed a long time ago.

EVERYONE can take pics to get help in this day and age...

Yeah, these don't help. I did build you the CPS2 harness version, sorry wrong guy.
Well you need to track down the one common wire ground (usually black) that goes to your joysticks and everything and see where it is going to on your jamma harness. If it is pin 27 or 28 then you have a Cart problem instead.
