I recently upgraded an original Blitz to a 2000 Gold by replacing the chips and installing a flash drive. Now I cannot turn off the bad language or set it to free play. Any ideas??

You possibly have a service switch mounted inside behind the top coin door. While the machine is on flip the switch/button to the left and then back to the right which should send you into service mode. The option to change this is found in there. The default is off for bad language so if you perform a factory restore it should remove it anyway. You'll then need to reenable FREEPLAY.

I am trying to make the adjustments through the service switch. When I try to set free play it says "The CMOS setting of free play is invalid - resetting to free play off"?? Then I try to Enable free play and is says setting free play mode failed.

If I go into violence or bad language it says "current setting invalid" it will not let me try to enable or disable either one.

Do I need to change some dip switch settings??

Doesn't MAME do the same thing? Maybe the issues are related... I have a Blitz machine myself, but I never had this issue.

With our Blitz, the buttons at the door are cut...trashed, so we have to in through the back to adjust the settings on the board itself with the dips.

I was told you don't have to shut the game off to do it, and it does work, and you can adjust it all from there. That way, if the battery was bad, the settings would be fine and stay where you put them, unless you shut it down.

The issue you are talking about seems to be beyond that. Never heard of one doing that before. Maybe the new flash drive is causing it to goof off?
