Hey, I picked up this Blitz from a guy who apparently got tired of working on it. It was in pieces, (coin door out, std res monitor put in, glass out, cp jacked up, mouse poop everywhere, etc.). Along with it came a box of 5 Blitz PCBs and one hard drive.

I'm not worried about the hard drive part, I think images are readily available and I've had success with dumping images onto hard drives for other games.

First off, it's a standard res monitor. I have the jumper #2 set on ON (on U8).

I just can't get any one of these boards to boot. Two of them boot to a crazy screen (pic attached) but no further. I don't even know what I have, or if ROMS were swapped around these things. It appears to be a Blitz '99 but I'm not sure of that either.

Three boards boot to nothing (no output on screen).

Ok, so if you have a working Blitz 99 board, can you let me know your ROM versions? It will give me a place to start. Also, do you know if it will boot with a dead battery? All the boards appear to have dead 3V batteries.

Thanks in advance.

Fixed...

It was just a matter of getting the ROMS correct. I had Blitz 99 Roms in with the wrong security ROM. Sorting out what someone else might have done can be a pain in the ass!!

Thanks!

your "crazy boot" screen is a resolution issue (running the game in medium resolution on the swapped in standard resolution monitor). you'll have to dig up the dipswitch settings that make it run in standard resolution. there's a few weird settings, whatever it was though, I think you make it ON-ON, leave the CPU settings alone.

whatever board you have that boots up and looks fine, match those dipswitch settings to simplify things. lol

It was weird though

I had the settings correct for "low res" but it would still boot to that crazy screen because I had the ROMS mixed up (I think it was a Blitz 99 boot ROM with a Blitz 97 security ROM). Once I got them correct, it booted fine.

Now I have other issues to deal with, but the pic is good. The "low-res" graphics look pretty damn good to me!

No matter what I did, unless the ROMS were correct, it would only boot med res. Weird, but like I said, I had 5 boards, 2 gave me something on the screen and who knows what was done to all of them. Some mixing and matching was all it took to get it right. AND, I luckd out with the hard drive, because the only one of those I had wound up being the right one for the boardset that I got to work! Lucky me!
