Hi,

After extensive searching this forum with no resolution to this particular problem I will open this thread in hopes that the expects can help me.

Just picked up a Blitz 99, its all working except for the joysticks. Indications point to the I40 board being the issue. In diagnositics the board is locked on to an up input so the menu is constantly scrolling up. I disconnect the output connector from the board and the menu stops scrolling. No joysticks are connected to the board during this time.

My questions:

Can this board be repaired, if so how?

Does anyone have a replacement I40 board they'd be willing to part with?

If the I40 cannot be repaired or replaced, I see in the manual that the can can use 8way sticks.

Is it as simple as creating a harness to match the pins on the board? Can the existing harness be used to do this?

Thanks!
Craig

I've never had the blessing of such problems with any of my 49-ways/I-40s, lol, but have you entertained unplugging individual joysticks to see if it might be a joystick problem and not something with the I-40?

visually inspect your wiring harnesses too. there's 4, players 1 and 2 will come off the JAMMA harness itself to plug into the I-40, and players 3 and 4 will have blue and grey wiring respectively coming off the player 3 and 4 headers on the board. each player will then have another corresponding wiring harness that comes off the I-40 to connect to the joysticks and buttons.

Yes I have started the game up with no joysticks plugged in and only the I40. If I disconnect the P1 Output of the I40 the scrolling stops which lead me to believe it was just an I40 issue.

I cannot find a single schematic of the board, which makes it kinda tough to fix. I believe its function is just to multiplex the optical signals back into the 4 lines expected by the Jamma connector.

Do you think I could just make my own harness with 8way sticks and buttons and wire straight to the main board? It does have a dip setting for 8way sticks...

Thanks for the reply!

you could use 8-ways, and you can even use it with your existing wiring, but you'd have to molest it and it'll never be usable with an optical again unless you purchase the right connector parts.. which I don't even know what size they are lol. the 8-ways are nasty in Blitz. truly horrible.

I think I have an extra I-40 laying around, I'll have to do some hunting, and I won't be in to work for awhile again.

they also turn up on ebay a lot, or on here, and they can generally be had for very cheap.
