i recently got blitz 99 for my jamma machine, and when i hook it up, nothing comes on the screen, and no sounds play. i do not have a hard drive for it. i took a look at the board, and it doesn't look like anything is missing. also, when i power it up, all the lights turn on on the board. is there a quick fix, or is it permanently non working? by the way, the cabinet/controls are all street fighter 2 championship edition parts.

You need a HD to get it to boot. I have a partially working boardset - the game won't boot due to a HD problem, but I can put it into TEST via dip switch and it will boot to the menu.

However, it will NOT boot at all if the HD is not connected, even though it doesn't work properly. So, if you don't have a HD for it, you won't be able to get the board to do anything but light up and continuously reboot...

you're ABSOLUTELY sure about this? i don't want to be out 25 dollars.

$25 for what? Buying the PCB or buying the HD? The program is on the HD. If you don't have it, you can't play it. Now, it's possible you could replace the HD with Compact Flash.

And I'm POSITIVE my board will not boot if the HD is not connected...

ok, thanks for the help you guys. i thought my board was non functioning or something. its nice to know that i was just missing something. blitz is one of my favorite games; i can't wait to get an HD.

Well, we're not guaranteeing your board will work with the HD, just that it definitely won't without the HD...

well, its good to know anyway. im kinda new to arcade machines, so this has been a huge help. also, does blitz only use 3 buttons, or do i need to wire up the jamma+ connector? by the way, my machine is a street fighter 2 championship edition, but i also have a double dribble board (not that it matters).

That would depend on whether you wanted to hook up all four players or not. It also used 49-way optical joysticks, but I think there is a setting in the manual to change it to 8-way regulars.

You'll also need to make sure Dip Sw #3 of bank 8 is off for a standard-resolution monitor...

ok, one last question. if i were to buy a hard drive on ebay, is there a connector cable that is permanently attached to the hard drive, or would i need to buy one separately so i can connect the board and the drive?

It uses an approx. 6" IDE cable, but one that does not have one pin blocked for orientation. Most available now had the blocked pin, so you may have a hard time finding one...

I should have one of those IDE cables (with 3 connectors on it -- able to attach 2 HDD's to a motherboard) if that is all you need. I think the Xbox 1 used that kind of cable.

great, i can get a hard drive no problem, but that cable is gonna be hard to find. well, thanks for the help nonetheless.

do the ones without blocked pins have 44 pins on them?

They're the same as the normal HD cables. The HD side can be blocked, but the connector on the board has a pin there, although it's obviously not needed...

like i said earlier, im new to this stuff, so (as much as it pains me to say it) i don't really know what a hd cable looks like. if it is a 44 pin connection, do i need a male to male, female to female, or male to female?

Pretty sure IDE's are 40-pin cables:

ok. so what kind of connection do i need? male to male? female to female? male to female? i would guess female to female
