I actually ne er even heard of Blasteroids but did a bit of googling... 3rd in series of Asteroids, Deluxe etc... produced in 1987.
Any thoughts or opinions?? Any better than Asteroids or did they improve it only to lose some of the old school retro feel to it??
and price check??
still waiting on pics...

i like asteroids deluxe more than asteroids, but agree with everyone else that space Duel is the winner. Blasteroids is junk.
<edit> My mistake! Blasteroids is so forgettable that I forgot it was raster.

I WILL say that Blasteroids might have the coolest CABINET in the Asteroids gang. :)

Perhaps a Space Duel in a Blasteroids cabinet . . . ?

The monitor is worth $800-1000, so if you can get it for cheaper than that, buy it and use the monitor.
I think you are thinking of Space Duel. Blasteroids is a rastor monitor.

Thank for all the replies. The guy threw out a price of $800.... even if it was in pristine shape, it sounds like its not really worth it unless I enjoyed it... I will wait for pics but at this point, I think its a hard pass!!

$800 is not an unreasonable price though perhaps somewhat on the high-side.

EXIDY:
Blasteroids (Atari)- Upright dedicated machine $750-$1000. eBay/Collector/Craigslist.

VAG:
$425-700; avg of $600

I also own a Blasteroids. I only have it, I guess, to also complete my 'Roids collection.
I probably would have been considered to be a good RASTER game (for 1987) if one resists the compulsion to compare it to those awesome classic early 80's VECTORS which proceeded it.

The Blasteroids cabinet is nice though. The addition of the spinners is a compelling "upgrade" to some gamers (but not to me, I prefer the five button layout).
Single or two player option is nice too. Having the option to change between three spaceship types adds some strategy to the basic concept.

If one had the choice between ATARI Asteroids, Asteroids Deluxe, Space Duel or Blasteroids, then the best coin would be spent on any one of the VECTORS, IMHO.

My first Experience was with Blasteroids. Didn't care for the other Asteroids games because at the time I was use to seeing games with Raster Graphics like Quartet, Gauntlet, Time Soldiers, etc.
I also liked the fact you get more game play out of the game. You become a bigger ship with 2 players and use different strategy's to clear the levels. I also liked the fact you had many different attacks you could use, items and different enemies you would encounter later in harder levels. You also got a Boss like Sinistar that talks and insults you at the end of the universe you complete. Guess not many people love "Sinistar" then based on the reactions I am seeing here. This is truly blowing my mind! Cause Sinistar was one of my favorite horror arcade games.

false. blasteroids is just a common 19" raster dude. something simple like a Sharp XM-2001N/K4600/K4900/G07, that shit ain't worth $800~1000! bwahahahahaha

asteriods deluxe is my favorite of the games except if you have two players on space duel with the joined ships and that changes the game entirely. Blasteroids just seemed like a poor simpler technology of an asteroids. I gave it a few quarters originally but soon got tired of it. Fond memories of asteroids while my pizza was cooking, maybe thats why I have a little more nostalgia with the vectors.

Whether it's raster or vector ( obviously a raster game ) has nothing to do with whether or not it's a good game . I also feel like comparing it to As / AD is folly . If you compared Berzerk next to Robotron you'd say Berzerk sucks ( I love both bu the way ) . Go see and play the Blasteroids . It's a fun game and you may be surprised

If I didn't have Space Duel, I'd be looking for one. It's a fun two player space shooter. One of the best things about it is the 3D details on the rocks. I also love the vortex effect after you complete each level.

As a two player simultaneous game I thought it was pretty fun.
Would be worth $800 to me if it was in decent shape.
