I've got a blast cabinet for stripping metal parts, works great, but I always get the media jammed up in the hinges of coin doors, cp's, etc. I haven't figured out a way to remove the sand 100%, anyone encounter this problem?

I was thinking high pressure water, or air, or maybe even heating it up. Just concerned about warping the metal parts from the heat.

Sand in the hinges prior to painting stinks.

question: which blast cabinet do you have? i just got the one from harbor freight and am looking for a decent enough air compressor to push it....says it needs 9cfm at 90psi...are you pushing that much air?

I got some in the couple doors I have done. I just worked the hinge back
and forth under running water for a few minutes. Usually cleans it out.
I use aluminum oxide.

Fudd, buy the highest rated (CFM) compressor you can afford. A nice lage tank 60-80 gallons
cuts down on how often it cycles. Sand blasting takes a lot of CFMs.

make sure you were a respirator.. even though your blasting in a box, the stuff still seams to linger around your :p

I never thought about just changing the media size, duh. Thanks!

I have a blast cat cabinet from TP tools. I have an 80 gal upright compressor.

The qty of air you can push makes all the difference.

Yep, 80 gallons is the way to go. I picked up an 80 gallon tank that pushed 175PSI. This was the largest tank, and pushed the most PSI I could find.....that still ran on electricity. On the nasty stuff, I crank that PSI all the way up! I use glass media. Regarding the hinges.....I clean mine out by blasting air into it while turning the hinge from one end to the other several times. The media cleans right out.

Blasting air into the hinge while working it back and forth seems to do the trick. I tried a heavier grit material (walnut shell) and it didn't work as well as the fine glass media I had. Where do you guys buy the media? Any good online sources? I can't imagine its cheap to ship.
