I've been trying to get carpet samples from a few places but only one has responded in any way. I requested samples via the websites of Flagship, Omega, and Astro (I think 2 of the 3 have a form for requesting them). Only Astro has sent me samples. Heck, despite having a policy of only sending 1 sample, they've sent me 3.

The other 2 places haven't even bothered to send me an email, much less send samples. I can try calling them next week, but I'm wondering if anyone has had success getting samples and/or buying carpet from Flagship or Omega (or other places for that matter)? I'm almost thinking I should just go with Astro and forget the other 2, but it would be nice to be able to compare quality.

I'm likely going with wall to wall just because the stuff is expensive enough as it is, but if I happen to find out there's a good price on a pattern I like and I can get decent padding with it, I'd consider that too.

Any comments on the 3 suppliers, or other places, as far as price and quality?

I got my samples from Kids Carpet. I think I had to pay a few bucks for each one, but worth it before spend big bucks on the whole thing.

I too have requested samples from numerous places, and I got no response at all. I'm on the hunt to find some local. I did find some that was enough for my gameroom and a good price, but it had the chick like on the back of truckers mud flaps all over it, in pink. Not really gameroom material, more like a strip club carpet. :)

Got mine from Kid Carpet too. They had the pattern I wanted, well at least before the water washed it all away :-(

I saw the pics recently. What a sad sight that was. :(

what pattern did you guys go with at kids carpet? do you have any pictures of it?

The samples I got from Astro were pizzazz, time to party, and mardis gras. We really didn't like pizzazz at all. Time to party was too childish looking (and of course that was what both my kids picked), and mardis gras seems like the right choice for us. Simple, not childish, yet colorful. We like it quite a bit. But it would be nice to compare it to similar styles from other places.

I'll check out the other 2 places mentioned. :)

I purchased my black light carpeting (Peter H's space voyage) from Flagship carpets around a year and a half ago and would recommend them. They answered my questions promptly, sent my samples when requested and overall it was a very good experience.

Did you request the samples on the phone or through their web site? I tried twice and haven't heard zip from them, much less received samples. Almost made me wonder if they were out of business or something.

It's been almost 1.5 years, but I'm pretty sure I spoke with someone at Flagship about sending me samples. I believe the person I spoke with was Vicki.

I just expanded the gameroom and the carptet for the "new addition" was installed on Friday. I have the space explorer and can send you a chunk that was left over. Let me know.

I also used kidcarpet.com. Their sample policy is that they charge you for them and will credit you back once you return them. That is what they did a couple years ago when I did the first part of the gameroom.

I was about to call these people, but had already placed the order with kidcarpet at the time. It also shows the space explorer pattern.

I would say you only need to get samples from one source. I beleive all the carpet is made by the same mill and everyone is just a wholesaler.

Here was stage 1 just over a year ago. Now the angled walls on the left in the picture are gone as part of the expansion.

Here is part of the "new wing".

And one more for good measure. This is where the angled walls were in the first picture.

There appears to be more than one mill from what I can tell of browsing various sites and comparing similar styles. But what really got me thinking about comparing is the literature that came with the samples. It talked about how deep their dyes go into the carpet and how thick the carpet is and compared that to "the other brands". Heck, I probably would have just said screw the other places and ordered from Astro. But when I read that, I thought it would be interesting to compare side by side on the points they make, and also to see what the other places say is their selling points in their literature.

I received around 3 - 5 different pattern samples from three or four sellers. For some of the patterns, the samples I received were exactly the same from the different sources, so I don't believe you will see a significant difference from one seller to the next, but it doesn't hurt to ask for as many samples as you can gather.

One piece of advice I have is most of the samples I received were around 10" x 10" and for those that weren't the pre-cut standard sample from the mill, ask for samples that would represent the full carpet pattern. My pattern (Space Voyager/Explorer) repeats after every six or seven feet.
