I've got samples from 2 mills - Astro Carpet Mills and Omega Pattern Works. I'm sure their carpet is sold through retailers so even if you didn't buy directly from one of these mills, your carpet might have been manufactured by them.

My question boils down to quality, and this is directed particularly to owners of carpet that came from Omega. It would appear that the quality isn't quite as high as it is from Astro, but I'm not sure that will be relevant for a home arcade. Basically the difference as I see it is Astro does a better job of getting the dyes deep into the carpet (and their brochure calls this out as one of their strong points vs. their competitors). I think it may also be thicker but I'd have to double check that.

I'm sure the difference in quality is important for a commercial application but I'm not sure it is for a home arcade, but if anyone has found that the quality of the carpet they bought isn't what they'd hoped, I'd sure want to know about that. So I'd like feedback from anyone with carpet from Omega, especially if you've had it for a while. If you're not sure who was the actual manufacturer, the link above will take you directly to their blacklight patterns.

My first choice (assuming my wife warms up to it): Kaleidoscope from Omega.

Second choice: Mardis Gras from Astro.

Question? Is it tile carpet or do you have to send them measurements for what you need?

Just curious myself.. I am looking for Tile Gameroom carpet cause I will probably have 2 polls that I dont want to cut around with a huge rug...

Pretty sure these guys just sell it in rolls...

I want some of this stuff, one day. It's just so damned expensive! :(

The expense is why I don't want to go for my first choice and then regret the quality later. :)

I've got 2 beams too, but they're at the center of the room. I should double check to make sure they're truly centered, because the room is just under 24' wide so it will take 2 rows of carpet with a seam down the middle. Hopefully the beams land right where the seam will be. I'm leaning towards having it professionally installed though so I imagine it's not a big deal to them.

I liked the Kaleidoscope pattern best... never worked with either of them though, so aside from design I have no real input. Tell me how it works out though, I'd love to get some BL carpet for my cade eventually.

Not to confuse to matter, but in case you are interested here is another manufacturer:

I just bought their space Explorer carpet an although they don't sell direct they sent me to this place:

http://www.carpet-wholesale.com/index.html

I got a better deal there BY FAR, than I did any place else I found black light carpets listed.

Hope this helps.

Wow. They do have better deals.

Here's a direct link to the "Space Explorer" page. Wasn't very easy to find...

Well, I didn't really get my original question answered but it seems to be a moot point. I got pricing and shipping from both places. Pricing is about the same ($1.59 and $1.57) but shipping from Astro is $205 and from Omega is $674!!! Though I like the Omega pattern more, the quality seems to be noticeably lower so I was a bit on the fence as I indicated originally. But the shipping certainly will cause me to fall off the fence.

I am trying to find out the pricing on the "starry night" carpet from joy/carpet-wholesale. It seems roughly equivalent to Mardis Gras, although from the pic I get the sense that it's not as good (I'd have to get a sample if the price is good enough to consider it).

Hey guys, thanks a lot for the info in this thread!

I've been considering doing this in my game room for quite some time and I'm definitely going to be giving these guys a call for a quote!

I got the Fiesta pattern from CarpetBargains.com. http://carpetbargains.com/black_light.html

The web site looks pretty sketchy, but they were great with my order over the phone. They took the order and all the info and gave me a delivery date and an exact price on freight. It was like $130. I told the lady I was in a neighborhood so they made sure it was send in a box truck rather than tractor trailer.

I don't have the carpet down yet, I'm still prepping the room, but it looks and feels sturdy. I guess their main limitation is the selection.

My first choice was originally the space/planets theme that everyone uses. My room is long and narrow though (12x25') and the way the pattern repeats on that rug looks odd in a long room. Ends up looking like a big stripe of Saturns down the room.

I got mine from Amazon.com. It even qualified for their free shipping. It is just a large area rug, but was priced so good and so close to filling the room, I couldn't pass it up.

If you don't mind me asking... Size, and link to where you got it from?

Not to change the subject too much but I am looking for a rug for my gameroom and I am amazed there are no (affordable) arcade-themed rugs out there. I found a Pacman maze rug but it was in a museum, and I also found a Space Invaders area rug but it was by some artist guy who wanted way too much money.

Anyone got any rug recommendations? Preferably for about 4' x 6'

fucking sweet, i was looking at those rugs,i thought about buying a cheap black one from walmart and get glow in the dark paint and stencil "GAME OVER" on it

Comment as far as the shipping goes. I sold floorcovering for a while and most mills have trucks that deliver to your area to all the different retailers on a weekly basis. And most retailers can order from any mill.

So if you find a product you like, start calling around your local floorcovering dealers and give them all the details and ask for a delivered quote. Then ask them to quote the installation separately. You may find some that can beat the quote you're getting and may get a lot less of a freight bill.
