I have a chance at a Black Widow... it's a vector game I've wanted for some time now... unfortunately the cabinet is just about shot. Severe water damage... chunks missing... etc.

It appears to be fully functional though....

Worth the effort? I am not sure if I can save the cab... and this is the first cab of that style (BW/Gravitar/Space Dual) that I've come across in the 5 years I've been doing this.

I am leaning toward pulling the trigger... because it IS a game I want... but damn... it's going to be ugly for some time... and I usually tend to restore all my games but this one may be too much...

(that said, having seen the guy restore that water logged Q*Bert I know it's not an impossibility).

Opinions?

Here is an example of the damage:

You can do it! Black Widow is definitely worth a full restore. It's a wonderful game, a lot like Robotron. I actually like Black Widow better - it has some really interesting elements and the color vector graphics look great.

Go for it! You'll be kicking yourself if you don't.

As long as the game works, the cabinet should be no big deal. You can always do a cabinet swap when you find another. Or, if youre ballsy, by all means restore it!

I would pull the trigger aswell.I find it to be a really fun game and also very hard to find.Build a new cab from scratch for it, take the dimensions and go from there.

The Black Widow control panel, marquee, boards are valuable. If you can get the whole game for a good price vs what the BW unique parts are worth, get it, then either get a repro cabinet from DPWitz or find a Gravitar cabinet to put the parts in. Sounds like BW sideart might eventually get made.

With your skill Fritz, hell ya go for it!!!!

Edit: I apologize Oh great Fritz please do not strike me down, I blame many years of drinking, wait Im drinking now. I will now go sit in the closet until I am allowed to post again.

I got a better original BW but its not for sale, LOL spare boards too!
Pretty rare and hard to come by...

Yeah... I know blackdogmachine... and I do want the game... but MAN that is a shit-ton of work to get it to where I'd want to get it to.

That said... I "am" looking for a project.

I figure if it's fully working (says it is)... and has structural integrity (says it does)... I'll likely pull the trigger. I just gotta see it in person.

:D

"You can do it!"

Seriously, if it works, get it. The cab is a total. Don't even waste time on it. I've tried to recover water-damaged Atari cabs and it's just not worth the time, effort or expense. I'd keep it as is and look for a donor cab or get one of DPWiz's cabs. Supposedly, Darin is eventually going to do BW sideart.

Yeah... the more I look at the pix the more I am convinced this isn't a cab that is going to survive... as long as it's structurally OK... doesn't stink to high heaven... i'll slap some extra T-Molding I have laying around on that bitch and throw her in the corner until I can find a suitable cabinet.

Just curious... what would you folk say a "good price" would be for a cab in this shape?

I know what he's asking...and how firm he is on it... and I'm likely willing to pay it... just wanted to know what you folks would pay.

:D

Id feel comfortable around $250-300.
