Hi guys,

Got a problem on my black widow and dont really know where to start. The screen is unstable. I have plugged in a complete known good spare k6100 with the same results. I have changed out the AVG chip with a known good one, and the 4x TL082 (they were in sockets!), reseated all eproms, etc. any ideas ? here is a short youtube vid.

update to this. Tried the board in my gravitar cab and same problem so the fault is definately on the board. In self test mode its exactly the same with no errors. Measured the + and - 15v and they are fine.... any clues ?
thanks,

Good call swapping the TL082s and checking voltage. Got an oscilloscope? Looks mostly Y-ish... DAC at F9 or MC1495 amps at A/B11 or C11 are the rest of the analog section, although it could be earlier than that (digital/vector data).

agreed, if your soldering skills are up to it, remove the 1495's replace and socket them, if that doesn't fix it, go for the DAC, could be either, recently repaired a tempest with similar problem but i can't remember for sure which was the culprit, but i think it was the DAC

Hey,

thanks guys. As it happens the 2 DAC's are in sockets already. I swapped them and nothing changed, so i guess next step is the 1495's. I will try and extract them maybe tonight and socket them and see what happens if i can swap them around....

Will update when i have tried it..

ok had another look at the schematics, and just thought before i started unsoldering chips that i would check all else, looking at the pots, after adjusting the X Centre everything is fine, so looks like maybe dust in the VR..... me overlooking the obvious as always :|

thanks for the suggestions guys. just gotta do the convergance now :(
