I finally got through some other projects and came back to this one. Swapped the AVG chip from my second Star Wars game into it and - presto! - It works! The screen looks beautiful too. I think the joysticks need some adjusting because it's hard to fire diagonally. But otherwise it looks amazing. So two questions:

1) Where's a good place to get another AVG chip?

2) Who has some gaming techniques to share?

you stillhave me on your short list, if you decide to trade/sell it?

nice work by the way.

Congrats on an awesome game! Here are a few pointers that come to mind:
1. Pay attention to the red webs so you don't get boxed in;
2. Push the red eggs off but shoot the yellows after they hatch (if the red egg is just inside the red web, go outside it and push it to the center);
3. Shoot in short bursts (or they will get you in between bursts);
4. Immediately move away from and shoot all grenade bugs;
5. On the "bug trains" in between levels, try to line them up and shoot them as they are coming directly toward you (as opposed to moving sideways) and shoot them all in one long burst.
6. Keep some distance from any rocket bugs as they fire from other bugs or you won't have time to shoot them all)
7. Get extra points by beating the friend bug to his next flashing quarry and wait near the last bug when there is only one left and time it so that you shoot the last bug and the friendly in the same burst (he becomes vulnerable when he's the last one).

Happy gaming!

Ok one more question. The CPO on this thing appears to be a tiny bit to long and it was installed so that it's stuck to the glass for maybe half an inch. It looks good that way but makes it impossible to open it up for adjusting the joysticks.

I'm thinking I could try to carefully slide a knife or razor blade under it to peel it back and open it and then re-stick it somehow. Or I could fold it over the top of the control panel but then I'd be missing the top edge of the graphics which wouldn't look right.

What would you do?

I don't understand what the big deal is. I have had quite a few Black Widows in my garage, but I just squish them. :)

Nice looking game. I will have to play it next year at CAX, I missed it this year.

Here is an idea...try using a razor blade or heat to to peel it off the glass, once off apply waxpaper to the sticky side. Then maybe it is easier to remove next time. The CPOs are usually stiff enough that it would still sit up against the glass?

it should be bent over the top

In that case, it's positioned high because if I bend it over now I will lose part of the graphics that are clearly meant to be seen. Oh well. I may try the wax paper thing if I'm able to peel it off without messing it up. Thanks guys.

My HS is 660,000+, "Lunatic Fringe" levels.
I've read where Robotron players complain that they "have to think" before they shoot things because you can't just shoot grenade bugs. This is not true, shoot the grenade bugs as soon as possible and as they get real close you need to back off AND shoot at the same time. If you back off, you can survive even within several grenade explosion "circles", as long as you move AWAY from the grenade bugs.
The key to killing the thunderbug is to "wiggle" the joystick quickly and it will "stay in line" and be killed much easier.
Always face towards rocket bugs and be ready to shoot, if possible.
Don't go after eggs in the center of the web, just blow them up with grenade bugs.
I've noticed that using more "jerky" joystick movements seem to help in this game, rather than "smooth" joystick movements, like say Pacman/DK.
Congrats!
