Last deal fell through.

Will trade black widow for :
a nice 25th anniversary pacman machine cocktail or upright Possibly a 20th anniversary

A Team play defender in good condition.

will consider other trades, of similar value. I am willing to kick in more money for late model stern pinballs.

Monopoly or terminator 3 machines in good condition. Would prefer to trading to selling.

I will meet you anyone half way up to a couple hundred miles of Davenport iowa.

Willing to entertain other offers.

My black widow is nice. The monitor is in awesome shape the image is crisp and clean. the side art is all there not perfect but good.
The cabinet is nice but starting to loosen up a little. I would give the cab. a solid B for condition, but again it isn't perfect. The game itself works flawlessly and the control panel is very nice.

what is this thing worth in parts? Would prefer not to part out, but I am curious what the parts would bring.

Part out for the major stuff to create a kit (CP, Marquee, pcb), in the condition you have, $300-$400 shipped. As for the rest of the stuff, harness, power supply, etc, maybe $100 shipped total. $200+ for the monitor.

Cab in that shape with the full side art would be a shame to part though.

I'll trade my Black Widow with Gravitar board and control panel for a sports car or other interesting trades like pins. :)

I live in Mass. :p

So if I have a black widow then will a gravitar board work with out any mods? Just put the control panel in swap the board and whamo?

Seriously. You really havent received any trade offers you like at all?

I had a really good offer, but he backed out due to the other half. I thought it was going to go down the road for sure. It was for a table top 25th anniversary. I wish that would have happened

I also had an offer that included a really minty popeye and some cash...

I guess I am just waiting for something cool. Its not about money, it really is just about finding something cool for the arcade.

Both offers probably very fair, maybe I just need to look for a gravitar conversion kit.

FYI, I have a Black Widow kit to convert a Gravitar. It has a metal CP, 2 joysticks, CPO, wire harness, ROMs to swap out on the Gravatar board to convert to Black Widow and side art (might be missing something, but I think I got it all, haven't checked in a while). I'm not sure there was a kit to do the other way around there weren't that many Black Widows.

Are you selling it? I am interested in knowing what kind of investment I'd have to make to be able to switch this back and forth.

Actually, they are the same PCB just with different programs in the EPROMs.

I would expect that you can just plug the Gravitar CP into the Black Widow harness and have it work.

Did Atari *GIVE* these conversion kits to operators because Gravitar earned so poorly or did the "poor schmoes" still have to buy the kits?

BTW, one can build a switchable Grav/BW daughtercard. See instructions here:

You know, that's a really good question. If Gravitar was such a bomb, ops would be up in arms for owning a $2k machine that doesn't make money. Forcing them to buy the BW conversion kit would have rubbed more salt in the wounds. Spending even more money to try to make a cabinet profitable just as the arcade crash was starting to happen sounds like something that would push some ops to their limits.

Why are two individuals on this thread - both - willing to trade away their Black Widows? Is it that suckish of a game?

Serious question - never played one before.

Black widow is the shiz! It's pretty much a vector Robotron. If I had a cab with a good color vector monitor I'd be snatching up one of those kits asap. I never come across those types of cabs around here though.

I have 3 Space Duels so I converted one to Black Widow. I think BW is an awesome and highly under-rated and under-known game. I would never trade away my BW. I converted another SD to Major Havoc.

Someone asked about converting Gravitar/BlackWidow/SpaceDuel cabs between these games and mentioned Major Havoc. Converting the first 3 games to each other is possible but there are considerations...

1/ Converting between Gravitar and Black Widow is fairly easy. The PCB's are identical except for the EPROM contents so it's just a board swap. If you lift the paper label on the BW board that says BW, you'll see that the PCB actually is a G board. I think the BW kit that converts a G includes a wiring adapter that plugs into the G harness in order to provide the extra wires required to support two joysticks. Converting a BW to G requires only to swap the EPROMs and a simple wiring adapter for the CP. Study the schematics for the BW and G games and you'll see how the CPs are wired. You can see from those drawings how to route the adapter or you can just move the pins around in the CP connector.

2/ I've never tried to convert a BW or G to a Space duel but I know that it's more complicated. SD has 4 speakers (2 pairs of stereo) and BW/G have only 2 speakers (2x mono). Space Duel requires some wires in the main harness that BW/G do not have so you'd have to add those wires to support SD.

3/ The BW/G cabs are not immediately able to support Major Havoc. The main harness is missing some required wires and a few are in different order. Also, there is no Major Havoc converter board that is designed to plug directly into either BW or G harnesses. Nothing is impossible however. You could rework the BW/G machine harness to be compatible with SD first and then add the MH board and MH-to-SD converter board.

3/ A Space Duel can be converted to Major Havoc by a simple board swap and by plugging a MH-to-SD converter board between the MH board and SD harness. A control panel modified to support MH controls can have its connector pinned to plug directly into the SD harness.
